I watched that full exchange in your link and it was by turns infuriating and depressing eventually followed by a deep sense of embarrassment for our country.

I think you should think less about how arrogant and stupid Rep. Massie is and how broken the system is that it elevates him to one of the most powerful people in the country. Like Donald Trump, it's easy to gawk at how unbelievably stupid the words coming out of his mouth is, but really, what is happening when the system rewards him for being who he is?

"CO2 and temp levels were diffferent in the past and the planet still is here" arguments are so stupid on so many levels. We had several mass extinction events during that time, some of which are directly linked to geologically sudden climate change.

The rapidity of climate change is also more of a problem than the mere fact that the climate is warming. Shorelines were significantly different 200 million years ago. People do things like build their cities on shorelines. If those change rapidly because sea levels change quickly in response to changes in global climate, that's going to cause a lot of problems.

This argument goes deeper then people want to look into, thus they want to call deniers "stupid."

There are parts of the planet that are warming, parts that are freezing over. That many parts in the north are melting is pretty obviously, but not something we can really do anything about. Whether is effected by other things then humans, as stated in the "quoted" phrase.

But the polar ice caps are melting on Mars too. Did we cause that? The storms on Jupiter and Saturn are changing, surface temp up almost 20 degrees on the big planets.

The hoax, is that if we give a government enough power to regulate all of the affairs of humanity, we can stop this. Normally, the oceans would be able to deal the CO2, but massive parts of coral reef are dying, which by itself releases massive amounts of carbon.

But the north is melting, MASSIVE amounts of methane are being released from the tundra, we cannot refreeze the north, even if we could stop the production of carbon. The earth is in a cycle, there is NOTHING we can do change that. I base that on the fact other planets are warming too, and we don't know how to cool them down.

So act all righteous if you want, but you don't understand is going on any more then anyone else.

Climate (and subsequently weather) is affected by factors other than human activity. Human activity, however, is the reason why global climate is warming. It is the variable that explains the difference. The effects of this warming are deleterious, and potentially catastrophically so.

This seems to be a half-remembered talking point that other planetary bodies in the solar system are warming; therefore, solar inputs are the controlling factor in climate changes on Earth. Unfortunately, it's only half-remembered so it's not even possible to point out inaccuracies in the typical claims about climate change occurring on other planets. If you plan to flesh this claim out, it may be possible to respond. As it stands, you need to understand that no one is saying that there aren't natural forcing of climate. What the science shows is anthropogenic forcings on earth are predicted to and account for rapid increase in global temperature and will continue to drive an increase as those forcings continue.

The main reason coral reefs are dying is ocean warming. What do you think is causing that?

Most advocacy currently is aimed, not at cooling down the planet, but stopping the addition of greenhouse gases that are accelerating its warming.

Oh, I think people armed with a middle school education on the subject understand the subject better than Massie. Most people who are science literate and reads general audience scientific publications like Science and Nature probably were hurt inside listening to Massie speak. I certainly was.
