In reading those anecdotes, I can't help but think they're describing pre-dementia and dementia on-set type symptoms. "Toward the end, my dad got really paranoid and racist" both adequately describes the onset of dementia and watching too much Tucker Carlson.

Holy crap. Some of those comments are identical to anecdotes I believe I've mentioned on this forum. Like the one about how we can only talk about the weather, not even football anymore.
The last comment was a stinger. It's hard because you know they hate people who are basically just like you. FOX news as probably done as much to ruin family relationships as alcohol. It is really sad watching so many people waste away their final years like this.

Funny how I've never heard of any similar stories about how family members have become unbearably intolerant and hateful after discovering Cuomo Prime Time or the Rachel Maddow Show. Yet, this phenomenon with FOX News is happening all around the globe, and even Libertarians can't help but notice the effects.
Sometimes I'll actually feel pretty sad because FOX has in fact stolen my parents away from me. Relationship was never that awesome to begin with, but there was always a hope that the relationships would develop and strengthen as time went on and we had families of our own. But thanks to FOX, the opposite happened.
Sure, they were always ignorant and racist but they kept it to themselves for the most part. Now, FOX and talk radio has encouraged them to be extroverted in their racism and ignorance. They've found common ground in Facebook groups who've effectively replaced their actual family. Grandkids cannot be trusted alone with the grandparents anymore because you have no idea what they're being told behind closed doors. So a normal familial relationship is no longer possible. Interactions boil down to holiday visits and little league ballgames where there is basically nothing but chit-chat about the weather. Hell, my wife's cancer wasn't even enough to change them. My Dad called from Florida bitching about "OBAMACARE" within the first 20 seconds of the conversation in which he first found out about her cancer. The dumb fuq didn't even understand that the only reason my wife has insurance is because of Obamacare.
