It seems many family values folks in private are not so righteous.

And I would guess that these sleezeballs are probably among the same legislators who are pushing for extremely restrictive and punitive anti-abortion legislation, including suspecting and indicting women even for having a simple miscarriage, despite the well known scientific fact that as many as 25 to 30 percent of pregnancies naturally and spontaneously end in miscarriage, through no fault of the mother--often before she even knows she is pregnant.

Religion is the idiot's shortcut to perceived respectability, and unfortunately, way too many people in this country are fooled by it.

How many people are religious because they actually believe that nonsense, as opposed to the number of people who do it for appearances? It seems pretty clear most church-types are pretenders.

Especially if they are politicians who try to use their claimed religiosity as a selling point. Just like businessmen who do the same.

ETA: This is not to say that the mere fact that a politician is a church going individual makes him or her suspect. There have been and still are politicians with deep religious commitments that have proved to be highly admirable and effective leaders, but if they try to emphasize the fact of their church membership as a significant part of their appeal to prospective voters, they are almost certainly charlatans. Even most people who are themselves religious have figured that out long ago.

That may be the weirdest subbie post yet. According to subbie remaining faithful to one's spouse takes force of will that is practically perfection. Lapses in said fidelity are bound to happen because no one is perfect. But that shouldn't get in the way of making sure gays don't do gay things or, god forbid, get married. God is so against homosexuality He is cool with a little fooling around behind one's wife's back so long as it is in the service of the great good that is American conservativism.
