Republican senators have blocked a House-backed bill and a separate trio of bills meant to beef up US election security. Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell criticized the House bill as “not allowing for valiant efforts to help reelect Trump from his friends abroad.”

I'm going to challenge this aspersion on foreign influence on our elections. It helps Republicans and that should be sufficient to understand this blockage. Who says Moscow cannot show its support for Trump, a bunch of Democrats? Maybe Beijing can help even the odds for Bernie.

Mitch McConnell is just as much a Russian stooge and traitor as Trump is. Both should be locked up indefinitely.

Republicans are doing everything they can to destroy the principles this country was founded on, because they're damned assholes.

China and Russia are working together against the US. So if the left wants foreign help to keep up with the right, they'll have to look elsewhere.

China and Russia are working together against the US. So if the left wants to assist foreign help to keep up with the right, they'll have to look elsewhere.

Succession battles that bring in foreign interference and owed allegiances are a classic way great powers go under.

One thing that some people don’t understand is that if you want to see the US weakened, having our current leadership is a great means to do it. There’s no substitute for that.

The allies of a strong liberal democracy probably are not as well positioned or as comfortable lining up to interfere on the other side.

Yep, because baseless accusations against people who disagree with your politics should result in prison...great guiding principle if you are a fascist.

Pretty sure you are unaware of all those principles...see also your disagree-with-me-and-go-to-prison principle above.

Do you have a link to these bills you are citing? it would be interesting to read their content so that actual knowledge for what was "blocked" could experience an all too rare moment of exposure on this thread.
I would hate to misinterpret what "beef up" means from a legislative point of view, thanks!

LOL. Does it really matter what the bills say? What you are really looking for is right-wing talking points. Try Breitbart.

The news about Senate Republicans blocking these three bills was covered by most news outlets. The bills can be found in the Congressional Record.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell squashed two bills intended to ensure voting security on Thursday, just one day after former special counsel Robert Mueller warned that Russians were attempting to sabotage the 2020 presidential elections "as we sit here."

McConnell said he wouldn't allow a vote on the bills because they were "so partisan," but, as previously reported, earlier this year McConnell received a slew of donations from four of the top voting machine lobbyists in the country.

"It's not surprising to me that Mitch McConnell is receiving these campaign contributions," the Brennan Center for Justice's Lawrence Norden told Sludge last month. "He seems single-handedly to be standing in the way of anything passing in Congress around election security, and that includes things that the vendors might want, like money for the states to replace antiquated equipment."

Seems that both money and a desire to allow the Russians to tamper Trump into office are factors motivating McConnell.
