We need more Women in STEM but don't need more Men in Nursing or Veterinary School.

Actually, the two cases may well be similar.

It seems quite probable that the non-selection of women for CEO posts has little to do with their objective ability, and more to do with their gender. Same for trash collecting, which is no longer a job that requires outstanding physical strength. There are plenty of women well able to do that job, which is a relatively well paid job for unskilled people, often with limited work hours. Plenty of men are happy with such work. I'd be very surprised if a woman who applied had much of a chance of getting into that particular guys' club, however. Those poor guys just wouldn't feel comfortable.
