Nice perspective on how you didn't realize that the NR had a greater objection to Trump in 2016...so you have effectively shown us that their position has softened...great job!

I thought they considered Trump the economic wunderkind and yet it seems the tariffs did not work. Any contrary views here? Will China goes elsewhere for agricultural products?

The National Review has always been more Reagan than Trump. Their brand of conservatism has historically found trade wars appalling. Trade wars are traditionally associated with protectionist policies from progressives and labor. Perhaps the most appalling and consequential aspect of the Trump presidency is we are getting the economic worst of both parties in one person. Ballooning deficits, trade wars combined with austerity towards social programs and tax cuts for corporations and the wealthiest Americans is bananas. All on top of an overheated market with borrowing propped up with declining interest rates. The effects won't just go away if he is impeached or loses in November.
