President Donald Trump took over Monday’s White House task force briefing to lash out at critics and the press with a bizarre video that amounted to a campaign ad, before later declaring his authority is “total” if governors disagree with him during the coronavirus pandemic

I’m not sure I’d be bragging about my leadership when US deaths doubled in one week. Hopefully the states and their municipalities are doing better than he and his braindead followers are doing.

Speaking of crazy crazy...

Trump pulls US funding for the WHO. Because they failed to stop the virus. Because now they’ll be in a better position to stop future viruses? I’d love for a Trump supporter to make this make sense.

It follows his anti-china stance. Progressively, China has been involved with WHO, trying to control it. The article below makes the case for this. However, an alternative, then, should be put into place. Also, it seems a bit rash and petty to do it now, during a crisis. The media must be getting to him with their where were you in February questions. Maybe Trump should lower his Adderall dose? Again, I hope we can do an effective postmortem on this and keep politics out so we might get the truth.

What anti-China stance? That better describes Navarro, who Trump ignored. Trump spent the early part of the Coronavirus pandemic praising Chinese efforts and transparency. He tends to heap praise on Xi in general. One of his most consistent traits is his affection for authoritarian regimes. Beyond that, it's recently been uncovered that the Trump admin's response was in part motivated by a desire not to rankle China during trade deal negotiations because the Trump admin wanted to look like it won a tough deal with China and needed China's support in appearing tough. To win that, they caved to them behind the scenes.

The more substantial part of his China praise was that it was a central argument in him trying to downplay any threat to the US. "Don't worry, markets, the US will be fine. China's got this. Keep on as normal..."

After his admin badly screwed up the domestic response, there's been an effort to scapegoat China and the WHO to deflect blame from domestic failures in preparedness and response. And that's all this is. It's an effort to distract and deflect.

There's a lot that's frustrating about that, but what gets me most is that it cheapens the very real criticisms that China and WHO deserve by turning them into misleading political footballs.

Here is one (of several) examples of Trump praising China and WHO's response to COVID. This one was on Fox News on Feb 10th:

Also, I gotta say that it is crazy-making that you have to explain to people what occurred basically a few weeks ago regarding the most intensely covered story in the country. At least in 1984 you got the sense that some time had passed before chocolate rations had changed. It reminds me of the poll showing most Republicans in Louisiana blamed Barrack Obama for the government's poor response to Hurricane Katrina.

You are assuming Trump acts rationally and not as a petulant child looking to blame someone or some group for his supposed failures in not getting on top of this in February. In February, Trump didn't want to do much and so wanted to make believe that everything was fine. Also, he had started a trade war with China as you undoubtedly know.

Further, there has been this drum beat to blame China for the corona virus in the first place.
