With everyone self-quarantined, cable news is filled with people broadcasting from home, usually in a library or a room with a lot of bookshelves behind them. (gravitas set decorating?) I find myself engaging in voyeurism, looking for hidden clues about the personal lives behind bookshelves. People joked about Seth Myer's copy of The Thorn Birds, but I must admit I find myself browsing bookshelves, seeing what the Talking Heads are reading.
Apropos of nothing, the Talking Heads made a concert video called Stop Making Sense.

It's absolutely clear that people are arranging their bookshelves for the background shots. Who displays book covers like a bookstore on their personal bookshelves?
They are definitely pulling out their favorite books, or at least, the ones they believe are the most impressive, or most represent who they think they are (or maybe ones they think everyone should read).
Honestly, I'm more impressed if the bookshelf just looks normal, or if they choose a different background.
God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.
