The Gordian Knot that is Kellyanne Conway

Post by _MeDotOrg »

When Ron Zigler was Richard Nixon's Press Secretary, he made a statement that was proven a lie. He issued another statement. When was asked about a statement he had made prior to evidence proving the statement was a lie, Zigler responded that the previous statement was inoperative, and the current statement was operative.

You find the same seeds of truth compartmentalization in Kellyanne's 'alternative facts'.

In March, when a reporter said she had heard about White House staffers using the term, Conway demanded the names of the staffers allegedly saying “kung flu.”

“Of course it’s wrong,” Conway said at the time. “That’s highly offensive, so you should tell us all who it is.”

So what was Kellyanne's response to Trump's utterance of those very same words?
My reaction is that the president has made very clear he wants everybody to understand, and I think many Americans do understand, that the virus originated in China, and had China been more transparent and honest with the United States and the world, we wouldn't have all the death and destruction that unfortunately we've suffered.
oh.

Pressed further, Ms. Conway revealed the deep moral conflict she felt, saying “I speak to the president daily, on a number of different topics. We don’t always agree on everything.”

One wonders which part of "everything" upon which she and the President disagree, but Kellyanne is far too discrete to discuss such sensitive topics with the American public.

How does this truth compartmentalization work? How do you function every day saying that something is disgusting, unless the President does it?

I think that Kayleigh McEnany has much the same problem. I don't think she can have any reasonable doubt that much of what she is defending is deliberate lies and misinformation, and that most rational, well informed people know that. It is blazingly obvious that keeping her position, perks and salary by defending Trump and his lies is overwhelmingly more important to her than being truthful and respectable. If she has any sense of decency at all, her conscience must be bothering her. I don't see how she can entirely escape the realization of how badly she is embarrassing both herself and her boss.

What makes it even worse is that prior to being hired for her current position, she deliberately auditioned for it by publicly, persistently and famously making a fool of herself by expressing her view that Trump has never told a lie. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yuBkRIlH-bQ
No precept or claim is more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.
