The endless stream of bad news
Re: The endless stream of bad news
Oh so now Mueller has found his voice huh...
https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions ... rc404=true
Former special counsel Robert Mueller lashed out in a rare op-ed in The Washington Post Saturday against President Donald Trump’s commutation of Roger Stone’s prison sentence on seven felonies. Stone “remains a convicted felon,” Mueller snapped.
The Russia investigation into possible collusion with the Trump campaign in the 2016 presidential election was of “paramount importance,” Mueller wrote. “Stone was prosecuted and convicted because he committed federal crimes. He remains a convicted felon, and rightly so.”
Mueller said he was “compelled” to respond to “broad claims that our investigation was illegitimate and our motives were improper, and to specific claims that Roger Stone was a victim of our office.”
He added: “Russia’s actions were a threat to America’s democracy. It was critical that they be investigated and understood.”
By late 2016, the FBI had “evidence that the Russians had signaled to a Trump campaign adviser that they could assist the campaign through the anonymous release of information damaging to the Democratic candidate,” Hillary Clinton.“And the FBI knew that the Russians had done just that,” Mueller said.
The investigation established that the “Russian government perceived it would benefit from a Trump presidency and worked to secure that outcome,” and Roger Stone was a key part of that investigation.
Stone “lied repeatedly to members of Congress. He lied about the identity of his intermediary to WikiLeaks,” which leaked Democratic Party emails, Mueller wrote. He lied when he denied he had “communicated with the Trump campaign about the timing of WikiLeaks’ releases. ... And he tampered with a witness,” Mueller added.
“We made every decision in Stone’s case, as in all our cases, based solely on the facts and the law and in accordance with the rule of law,” he concluded. “The women and men who conducted these investigations and prosecutions acted with the highest integrity. Claims to the contrary are false.”

What is the relevance of the picture to your post, please?

Republican S en. Lindsey Graham, the chairman of the powerful Senate Judiciary Committee, said Sunday that he will grant a request by Democrats to have former special counsel Robert Mueller testify about his investigation before the committee.
Graham's comments follow an op-ed by Mueller published Saturday in The Washington Post, in which the former special counsel defended his office's prosecution of Roger Stone and wrote that he is still a convicted felon and "rightly so" in light of President Donald Trump's commutation of Stone. Mueller was appointed in May 2017 to investigate Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.
I sense a trap. Like, this may be Graham brining Mueller in to attack him and the investigation over "Obamagate" claims. But maybe, just maybe Lindsey Graham from 2015-16 is resurfacing. I doubt it but maybe.

Given that he was defending the Stone commutation as entirely appropriate as of yesterday, I think you have your answer.honorentheos wrote: ↑Sun Jul 12, 2020 4:57 pmhttps://www.cnn.com/2020/07/12/politics ... index.html

This seems more appropriate for the "dumb comments" thread.Jersey Girl wrote: ↑Wed Jul 15, 2020 3:09 amSounds like a plan. See you guys in November.Ivanka Trump

This reminds me of "Who Moved My Cheese" and other patronizing corporate messaging given to people facing job loss. The trick to understanding why there is a market for such insulting drivel is that the target audience isn't really the people needing to cope with job loss. It's for the people who want to feel better about downsizing their labor pool. It's for the people doing the firing, not for those getting fired. The world of human resources and management conferences is up to its eyeballs in corporate motivational speaking books and messages like this. While ostensibly aimed at workers, it's really for management / human resources.
So I have one of two interpretations of this.
1) The people who thought this was a good idea are upper management / owner types who have had their brain poisoned by corporate motivational speaking and think this is a comforting message to people in a time of economic anxiety and need. The Trump admin is so gutted of actual expertise that this wouldn't be surprising.
2) This is meant, not for the people losing their jobs, but to help people who aren't feel better about people who are. As in, "Aw, they're just being given a new opportunity to improve their life." "Open a window when a door closes. Blah Blah."
Either way, it's bad on a "let them eat cake" level. That no one with influence could point out that it's a very bad message to attach to otherwise routine helping the dispossessed find job development resources is telling.

It is from the same ephemeral, optimisic advertising mind-set that that permeates this White House. It's like when the corporate world invented the slogan 'right-sizing' to replace 'down-sizing'. Expect some great economic news about the opportunities in the mortuary business.EAllusion wrote: ↑Wed Jul 15, 2020 5:09 pm[1) The people who thought this was a good idea are upper management / owner types who have had their brain poisoned by corporate motivational speaking and think this is a comforting message to people in a time of economic anxiety and need. Yeah. This all blends together in my mind. The Trump admin's messaging aesthetic is basically a scam infomercial from the early 90's and it's also permeated with people who are into the corporate self-help books especially popular with people in sales.MeDotOrg wrote: It is from the same ephemeral, optimisic advertising mind-set that that permeates this White House.
