US Reputation COLLAPSES Globally Under Trump

Post by _Gunnar »

Thanks to Trump, global trust in the USA has sunk to an all time low. Even XI of China and Putin of Russia are regarded as more trustworthy than Trump. USA reputation and trustworthiness in the world reached a high during the Obama years, and sunk to a new record low because of Trump. Trump and the USA are now regarded as laughing stocks by most of the rest of the world, which thinks Americans were stupid to have elected Trump. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4m8nFqqPsSc. It will probably take a long time for the USA to regain any semblance of its former reputation and respect after Trump is gone, and that respect and reputation will almost certainly sink even lower, if Trump wins the coming election.

This is precisely what Putin hoped to achieve by his meddling in our elections. Putin makes no secret of how delighted he is that Trump is our President. Doesn't it give any of you Trumpists at least some pause to realize that our arch rival is so happy about Trump being our leader?

Is this according to the latest issue of "Global Opinion Weekly"? because I just read that rag for the stereo reviews.

As expected you wouldn't, you didn't even bother to look at the link. This conclusion is by the highly respected Pew Research Center. But then, I'm sure you don't respect anyone or any source that disagrees with you about anything.
U.S. Image Plummets Internationally as Most Say Country Has Handled Coronavirus Badly
But then, as I have already pointed out to you several times, if you haven't already realized all this, you simply have not been paying attention to the reality of what has been going on.
Since Donald Trump took office as president, the image of the United States has suffered across many regions of the globe. As a new 13-nation Pew Research Center survey illustrates, America’s reputation has declined further over the past year among many key allies and partners. In several countries, the share of the public with a favorable view of the U.S. is as low as it has been at any point since the Center began polling on this topic nearly two decades ago.

For instance, just 41% in the United Kingdom express a favorable opinion of the U.S., the lowest percentage registered in any Pew Research Center survey there. In France, only 31% see the U.S. positively, matching the grim ratings from March 2003, at the height of U.S.-France tensions over the Iraq War. Germans give the U.S. particularly low marks on the survey: 26% rate the U.S. favorably, similar to the 25% in the same March 2003 poll.

Part of the decline over the past year is linked to how the U.S. had handled the coronavirus pandemic. Across the 13 nations surveyed, a median of just 15% say the U.S. has done a good job of dealing with the outbreak. In contrast, most say the World Health Organization (WHO) and European Union have done a good job, and in nearly all nations people give their own country positive marks for dealing with the crisis (the U.S. and UK are notable exceptions). Relatively few think China has handled the pandemic well, although it still receives considerably better reviews than the U.S. response.

Ratings for U.S. President Donald Trump have been low in these nations throughout his presidency, and that trend continues this year. Trump’s most negative assessment is in Belgium, where only 9% say they have confidence in the U.S. president to do the right thing in world affairs. His highest rating is in Japan; still, just one-quarter of Japanese express confidence in Trump.

Attitudes toward Trump have consistently been much more negative than those toward his predecessor, Barack Obama, especially in Western Europe. In the UK, Spain, France and Germany, ratings for Trump are similar to those received by George W. Bush near the end of his presidency.
But what really hurts is:
Ratings for Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping are overwhelmingly negative, although not as negative as those for Trump.
Please read the whole study and especially the graphs provided. It is devastatingly revealing.

Putin wants to bring down democracy, and he is currently winning. This is especially true with the US and his helping to get Trump elected. He also wants the end of NATO, and EU, which he see as a major barrier to Russian expansion and influence. I give it decent odds that this(NATO) could happen with a reelection of Trump. Trump has way to many views inline with Putin for me to think this is just coincidence. Especially in light of his many connections to Putin and secret meetings with Putin without his own translator.

Trump has many serious flaws that make help one of the worst people you want as leader of your country. Even a majority of Americans could see this. It's not like we haven't had many decades of his celebrity life to see what kind of Moron he is, but some people are stupid and easily manipulated. It will take a bit to regain reputation since we know many still support Trump, but I also see that Trump is doing everything he can to rig the election and it may be enough to steal the election, which is another reason he needs as many loyalists on the supreme court to rule in his favor. It might also help if he loses and needs their protection from his many crimes.

All the above is true, and is, over time, becoming increasingly obvious to more and more people, especially to Republicans, who see their influence and popularity steadily but slowly eroding away over time. They know better than anyone that many of their most cherished goals and ideas are opposed by a growing majority of Americans. For examples: more than 70% of Americans oppose making abortion illegal for all, more than 60% recognize the reality of human caused climate change, and the importance of taking vigorous action to mitigate it, the vast majority of Americans oppose ending or weakening the Social Security System, well over half of Americans approve the idea of universal healthcare (even in red states there is majority approval of keeping the ACA, otherwise known as Obamacare), and 59 to 61% agree that replacing Ruth Bader Ginsburg should be left to the winner of the current presidential election.

Diehard Conservatives are engaged in a desperate, last gasp effort to hold on to and make permanent what power and influence they still have, even if that can only be achieved by undemocratic, despotic means that ignore the legitimate desires of the majority of their constituents.

Gunnar I just want to say that I interact daily with international residents from all over the world. When the topic comes up, the overwhelming response is one of sympathy for the U.S. They do mock Trump, however they do not laugh at the American people. They feel bad for us, they pray for us, send us well wishes and that sort of thing.

The world is indeed watching us.

It is encouraging to know that, but I'm sure that most of them still have a poor opinion of or pity those Americans deluded enough to have voted for and still support Trump.

I would say that pity is definitely part of what I've seen in my interactions, Gunnar. I'd say pity for all Americans. I think that in the UK especially they can identify with our dilemmas on account of that Boris Johnson guy. So many feel the same way about him as they do Trump.

Gunnar all I can say at this point, and I think I am being a realist vs alarmist here, is that we should prepare ourselves in whatever ways we see fit for the upcoming months because none of this is over in November and irregardless of whomever sits in the White House then, in January, and following that, we still have to get through this winter of pandemic with Trump in place.

So yeah. Good luck.

Setting aside your hyperbole and misrepresentation of the poll results, did you haplen to find the poll that says how much we, as Americans, don't give 2 squats?

I doubt you represent all or most Americans, and while many don't give 2 squats, that does not change the reality of how it can affect the US in it's economy and power and influence around the world. Power and Influence it likes to use to it's benefit.
