From CNN:
The Trump administration has rejected California's request for a disaster declaration for six destructive wildfires that burned hundreds of thousands of acres across the state, including a massive central California wildfire that has become the single largest in state history.

The request for a Major Presidential Disaster Declaration for early September fires has been denied by the federal administration," Brian Ferguson, a spokesperson for the Governor's Office of Emergency Services, confirmed to CNN. The state plans to appeal the decision.

The denial comes after California Gov. Gavin Newsom requested financial aid from the federal government in a September 28 letter to the Trump administration outlining the financial impact of the wildfires.

Writing that infrastructure damage estimates exceeded $229 million, Newsom asserted that "federal assistance is critical to support physical and economic recovery of California and its communities." "The longer it takes for California and its communities to recover, the more severe, devastating, and irreversible the economic impacts will be," he said.

Recent fires included in the disaster declaration request were the Creek Fire, the largest wildfire in the state's history, which has scorched 341,722 acres across Fresno and Madera counties, the Bobcat Fire, which has burned 115,796 acres in Los Angeles County, and the El Dorado Fire, which was sparked by a gender reveal party in San Bernardino County over Labor Day weekend.

The three other wildfires in the request were the Valley Fire in San Diego County, the Oak Fire in Mendocino County and the Slater Fire in Siskiyou County.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency did not immediately respond to CNN's request for comment.
A few things become apparent. Trump really doesn't care about the popular vote. Yes, California is a lost cause as a source of electoral votes, but he really doesn't care how many people he pisses off in the most populous state in the Union. In fact, he just doesn't care about people. full stop.

It is the correct call for California from the Fed....and it is correct politically, it is correct financially; and it is correct governance.
But you feel free to send money their way since for you it is not allegedly "full stop".

More than half of the land burned is Federal. Please elaborate on why you believe it is correct politically and financially to deny Federal assistance in an emergency.

If it is federal land, then the federal government needs to maintain it and pay to do so.

I was so irate when I saw this in the news! My understanding is that an estimated 58% of the forest land in CA is federally owned. Now, I see where MeDot says more than half the land burned is federally owned.

So. Trump is shirking his federal duties in favor of sticking it to a Democrat Governor.

Yet another reason to speak with our vote and get this guy out of office. He's completely unfit.

Now I just saw where he's reversed course on this. He's not even capable of making a rational decision. Either that or he gets his jollies from jerking around a whole lot of American citizens.

Because it takes away from poor Donald snookums rallies. He needs more money for those so he can continue being popular with the dumbed down in America... Why waste it on Americans when he can use it all for hisself?

You're clearly wrong on all counts. As already pointed out, not only here, but on previous threads, the federal government owns and is responsible for the management of well over half of California's forest lands. Not only that, typically California contributes far more to the federal coffers than it gets back in benefits and grants. The opposite is the case in most of the Red states.

Gunnar, Gunnar, Gunnar.......it is mean to confuse poor subgenius with reality and facts. Wouldn't it have been nicer and more helpful to just say the liberal news is throwing out fake news to make Donald look bad? That way poor subbie doesn't have to waddle from his butt hurt.
