Barack Obama: Open Borders ‘Unsustainable’ for the United States

Former President Barack Obama said Tuesday that open border policies on the Southern border were “unsustainable” for the United States.
“We have borders,” Obama said in an interview with ABC News host Robin Roberts. “The idea that we can just have open borders is something that … as a practical matter, is unsustainable.”

The president acknowledged that President Joe Biden was still dealing with migrant emergencies on the Southern border, calling it a “painful reminder” that America had not fixed the broken immigration system. Obama said:

As big-hearted as he is, nobody understands that better than Joe Biden. And the question is now: Are we gonna get serious about dealing with this problem in a systemic way, as opposed to these one-offs where we’re constantly reacting to emergencies?

Of the over 15,000 mostly Haitian migrants who gathered in a makeshift camp under the border bridge of Del Rio, Texas, thousands were allowed into the United States under Biden’s administration.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki responded to a question about whether Biden agreed with Obama’s comment during the daily press briefing on Tuesday afternoon.

“We don’t have open borders,” Psaki said. “So yes, he agrees.”

This quote from Obama is particularly rich given he and his parties efforts to halt any real border enforcement since 1960. I don't understand what would prompt him to say it? Icarus has shown us the data that proves that illegal immigrants are a net benefit to the economy and standard of living for native born Americans. And for most Democrats any kind of border enforcement is racist and immoral. The Democrat party's success depends on getting as many immigrants into the country, legalized, and voting as soon as possible. Perhaps he's just campaigning as a moderate so that he can govern as a leftist? Why else would he even say that open borders is unsustainable?

2. In 1960, Obama was still a year away from being born, so it’s safe to say that he did very little that year to halt border enforcement. I’d say that you want to wait until he actually existed before you try to pin any blame on him. Maybe wait until even a few years after that, until he’s out of diapers, at least.*
