I think it’s more accurate to say because Trump isn’t currently a Democrat. Speaking of which, does Congress hold any culpability for that deficit?

I would certainly hold Congress responsible before Trump. He was happy to sign off on whatever tax cut they passed.

He campaigned on promised tax cuts. It's on him.

It doesn’t matter what he campaigned on. If I recall correctly, he didn’t send a proposal to the Congress — he just signed it.

Well, one could argue it passed Congress because they knew Trump would sign it. I don't really recall them passing much else during Trump's time (other than COVID relief, and of course, the Democrats had the house by then).

It ended up being a tax cut that almost exclusively benefited billionaires. That alone is enough for Ajax.

That's how I see it too. The GOP was bending over backwards to serve their new master. Still are.

This is the same guy who said he was the king of debt, but if elected President, he'd get rid of the deficits entirely.

You could argue that but it removes the culpability of Congress in this act. At the end of the day they are supposed to own the purse. Just because they neglect their duties and wish to pass the buck to someone else doesn't mean they shouldn't be held to account. I'm not saying the president doesn't own some part of it (I don't read RI as saying that either) but it doesn't mean Congress gets a free pass either.
