The Idea of Secession

Let's imagine what would happen if the US actually broke apart.
I really don't think people who actually want to split up the country have thought it through. What if all your investments are in states that become another country? What if the home you own isn't on the land in the country you want to be in? What about the actual logistics of people self-sorting? Who's going to pay for all the people that will need to move? Are people going to be able to afford to move to their favored country all of a sudden? If not, what happens to the poor people who are left in the ideological country of their nightmares and can't join the utopia of their dreams?
Since not everyone will be able (or want) to relocate right away (if ever), then all formed countries will be just like they are now, with a mix of people with ideologies across the spectrum. They'll just be smaller, more impoverished, and more hostile to the people who aren't already "ideologically pure."
It's such a dumb wish.

Also, unless each country decides to kill or deport all babies who are born into the new countries who aren't "ideologically pure", those countries will always have the same basic mix of political views we have now.

I purpose a house swap app. It finds you a house with similar characteristics (Sq ft, bed/bath, park adjacency, etc.) in the country of your political bent owned by someone wanting to move to your new political country. That way at least your personal home can get sorted in our new political bubble paradise. There is even room for expansion with this company into the moving sector.
Don't think too hard on how much value I'm going to pick up when I swap my 2k sq ft house in Texas for one in the San Francisco or Seattle area... A fine trade in my opinion (assuming the whole crazy idea doesn't obliterate the economy somehow).
Eta you'd obviously just keep paying on the old property if you aren't payed off yet. No reason to bring in the hassle of deed swapping and mortgage refinancing.

That's the thing. There are hundreds of variables in circumstance that would influence how it all went down. If it were the result of some strange civil war, millions of people would simply be displaced if not killed. Lots of people would lose everything, especially those on the "losing" side. It would crush the economy.
I can't help but think a hot civil war in this country will never happen because it would be so terrible for business, across the board.

Self segregation is kind of already happening on it's own as businesses move out of California into Texas and homeless people head out to California for good weather, beaches, and above all to collect on generous social welfare benefits.
For this reason democratic socialists in NY, IL, and CA are so fixated on establishing federal economic control over free states like Texas, Florida, LA, etc. lest their cash cows escape across state lines.

The problem with your scenario is with those jobs come the workers and they are having a marked impact here. If you think Texas isn't become more liberal both as demographics shift but also as the suburbs expand you haven't been following the polls. I'm not suggesting it is going blue any day now but you are ignoring major shifts in voting trends here. Even with the current redistricting the voting trend here is going to be difficult to stifle.

I suppose you're right. Perhaps Texas is becoming just what California once was 50 years ago. Most people from New York seem to bring their leftist political views to Florida as well. It's a shame they didn't believe their own COVID propaganda and didn't stay in New York out of fear that DeSantis policies were going to kill everyone.
ETA: At least if it's working people (albeit people who suffer from liberalism) following corporations that are seeking lower corporate taxes, that's not as bad as the unemployed thugs, gang bangers, potheads, vagrants, welfare queens, and beach bums coming into the state from California.

Explain how that works, please.

Raise federal rax rates to pay for Covid "infrastructure" and stimulus checks. Or just inflate the dollar as a sort of hidden tax upon those states whose people work to pay for eternal lockdown in blue states.

What is “COVID infrastructure” and when were taxes raised to pay for it? And do you have the per capita federal tax receipt figures for 2020 by state? Or is this some resentment fueled fever dream?
