Still Winning: Florida Reporting Lowest Coronavirus Case Rate Per Capita in U.S.

The Sunshine State is continuing to defy the opinions and attacks offered by members of the far-left and establishment media, reporting the lowest coronavirus cases per capita in the United States.

As of Monday, Florida continued to report the lowest case rate per 100,000 standing at seven, per the New York Times’ latest tally. Florida’s daily average of cases stood at 1,437 as of Monday, a decrease of two percent over the last two weeks.

Blue states, famous for their lockdowns, continue to struggle to catch up to Florida in terms of low cases. Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s (D) Michigan, for example, is reporting a daily average of 8,780 daily cases, or 88 per capita. That represents an increase of 78 percent in the last two weeks. Last week, state health leaders issued another health advisory, urging everyone over the age of two to wear a mask, regardless of their vaccination status.

Gov. Tom Wolf’s (D) Pennsylvania, which he put under lockdown for months on end, is also struggling, reporting a daily average of 5,903 cases, or 46 per 100,000. That represents an increase of 43 percent in the last two weeks.

Similarly, Gov. Kathy Hochul’s (D) New York, once the U.S. epicenter of the virus, is reporting a daily average of 6,901 cases, or 35 per capita. That represents an increase of 63 percent in the last 14 days.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) noted this phenomenon during his press conference in Brandon, Florida, on Thursday, where he signed legislation aimed to protect workers from mandatory vaccine requirements.

“They don’t want to tell you this, but Florida for like almost a month has been either the lowest or one of the lowest COVID in the entire country,” he said.

“You see it surging in other parts. The corporate media, they don’t like it when it surges in other parts. They only like it when it surges in places that they don’t like,” he continued.

“And so, I don’t know if they’re even going to cover that, but I see it happening, and it was something that was obviously predictable,” the governor added.

I'll never be able to forgive the Democrat party for trashing our economy as they have done. What's sad is that DeSantis was very lucky to be elected in 2018. It was far too close. Things could have been so much worse. New Yorkers, Californians, Chicagoans, Cubans, Puerto Ricans, Mexicans, Venezuelans, you're welcome to come to Florida on the condition that you repent from your socialistic tendencies and leave your politics in the Marxist cesspools you came from. Otherwise stay the hell out. Don't make us have to throw you out. We'd like to remain a free state, biomedically and economically.

DON'T NEW YORK MY FLORIDA!
And when the Confederates saw Jackson standing fearless like a stonewall, the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

It's possible that Ajax even believes this. On a daily or weekly basis, any state could be in a surge or a retreat, but over time Florida is getting its ass kicked.

Florida is the 9th worse state in the nation for deaths per population and 12th in cases per pop. Out of those with more deaths, only two are blue; New York and Jersey, and those were the first to get hit and most densely populated. All the rest are unhinged red states that should have the lowest rates given population density and had plenty of time to prepare. But, Florida is only a hairs width worse than most of the others and really, only Jersey, Mississippi, and Alabama have a meaningfully higher death rate.
Michigan, for example,

Michigan is doing substantially better than Florida, at 21st in deaths. The gap between Michigan and Florida is about the same as the gap between Florida and between number 2 and 3 on the list.

And that’s despite 13,000,000 or so Floridians having been vaccinated. Again, I’m 100% for Floridians who don’t want to get vaccinated to not get vaccinated. I support their right to choose, and I disagree with the Biden admin forcing morons to get vaccinated through coercion rather than through persuasion. We should let natural selection run its course.

He’s winning the contest for most unnecessary deaths per capita.

Unfortunately (or fortunately, I guess, depending on how you look at it), a simple look at per capita infection rates doesn't really give us a complete picture.

As an example, Missouri, New York, and Kansas currently have a positive effective reproduction number.

On the surface, we could look at that and think that a bellwether state, a blue state, and a red state must all have similar COVID policies that don't really work. But there are so many other factors that come into play. The amount of unfiltered broad spectrum UV on public surfaces and areas is one potential contributing factor. Population density is another. Public transit is yet another.

Taking the population density as an example, the population of New York City is a third of the entire population of Florida.

There are also things like standard of care, socioeconomic disadvantages, etc. that can come into play. If we move away from case count per capita, and look at death rates, we find that Florida and New York are ranked fairly closely (285 and 294 respectively), with Mississippi and Alabama at the top (344 and 328). At the bottom are Maine (95), Hawaii (71) and Vermont (65).

On a purely economic front, we could look and see that Florida received more federal funding than New York, and point to that as "Florida's socialist economy is on the federal dole, and New York's economy is built upon the American spirit of individualism and personal responsibility." But, if we look at the dollar amounts, and the populations, we see that their federal funding was pretty close per capita.

Point being, while simple surface numbers can be interesting, and a good jumping off point for further exploration; they aren't always useful in drawing broad conclusions.

Aping Breirtbart, Ajax will cherry pick any number he thinks he can use to rail against the commies. For him, numbers are a jumping off point — off the high dive into an empty swimming pool.

Things probably look better this month for Florida because so many folks there already caught COVID the last few months.

Here’s how the situation looked In August and September:

So, here are the stats over time for per capita COVID infection in Florida, Michigan, and my home state of Washington over time. Why does Ajax want to compare Florida and Michigan today? Pretty obvious: Florida had its delta variant surge a couple of months earlier than Michigan. Back in August, Ajax wouldn't have made the comparison. Cherry Picking.

You want to know which state jumped on restrictions early and has tried to maintain them at appropriate levels throughout the pandemic. Follow the green line. Compared to my governor, DeSantis is a merchant of death. Michiganganders could have spared themselves such a high delta peak if they had done what both Washingtonians and Floridians have done:

Case counts never mattered. And it doesn't matter now. If you're vaccinated, you have nothing to worry about. And in reality most unvaccinated people have nothing to worry about. If you don't like De Santis policies, than move to a blue state that you feel is safer. Quit trying to New York my Florida.

Now that's the best example of shifting goalposts I've seen in a long time. You were happy to talk about case counts when you thought you had a "gotcha." Now that you realize the only person who was "got" was you, you want to change the subject. How many more times are you going to let Breitbart hold the football for you, Charlie Brown?

P.S. -- Florida isn't "yours." Individuals don't own states. We still have freedom of movement in this country, including the freedom to choose where to live. Why do you hate freedom? And any current Floridian who doesn't think Florida has handled the pandemic well is free to vote him out of office. Why do you hate voting? Hmm. Ajaxland doesn't sound very free to me.
