Elizabeth Holmes, Billionaires and Psychopaths

Post by MeDotOrg »

There is an almost Rasputin-like quality to Elizabeth Homes: The way she focuses her UNBLINKING gaze on you and pulls you in with her deliberately low-pitched voice. She exists as a persona, a mask, a character of her own invention, and was able to con a lot of very blue chip people to invest. Some behavior analysts have said she may be a high-functioning psychopath, a kind of Dexter character, who is able to mimic the behavior of others, but not really feel what they are feeling.

Such people can be very successful in business, because empathy, guilt or remorse are no longer obstacles blocking your progress. What you need to understand about Elizabeth Holmes and Theranos is that she would have franchised thousands of blood testing outlets in Walgreens and Safeway Markets. Her blood testing equipment was dangerously inaccurate. People would have certainly died.

This is why we need government institutions like the FDA. This is why when the marriage of a 'fake it till you make it' software development mentality meets the life or death standards of medical procedures, we need to say 'stop' before 'go'.
The great problem of any civilization is how to rejuvenate itself without rebarbarization.
