Check out his videos, he went over a lot of research studies. Good quality stuff.Res Ipsa wrote: ↑Fri Apr 15, 2022 6:40 pmOne doctor?doubtingthomas wrote: ↑Fri Apr 15, 2022 6:33 pm
I used to think that, but the same doctor does have some concerns about Metformin when used as an anti-aging drug.
And "FIGHT AGING!" doesn't recommend it.

Re: Rapamycin
There are inevitably a lot of concerns with using any compound that interacts with these pathways, as a broad "anti-aging" drug. Meformin's mechanism of action is (likely) just upstream of Rapamycin's (AMPK in the image I posted earlier).doubtingthomas wrote: ↑Fri Apr 15, 2022 6:33 pmI used to think that, but the same doctor does have some concerns about Metformin when used as an anti-aging drug.Doctor Steuss wrote: ↑Fri Apr 15, 2022 6:14 pmfor what it's worth, Metformin has shown more promise at increasing life expectancy than Rapamycin.
You tinker with these pathways, and the results aren't all rainbows and kittens. This is why they have such incredible potential for treating specific disorders and diseases... but not so much as "take this, and live longer."

Lol. Hey, if a blog that grew from Longevity Meme, written by a mononymous dude that goes by "Reason" doesn't recommend it... who are any of us to argue.doubtingthomas wrote: ↑Fri Apr 15, 2022 6:46 pmAnd "FIGHT AGING!" doesn't recommend it.

When it comes to science and medicine, I don't do videos. Where's the peer-reviewed literature?doubtingthomas wrote: ↑Fri Apr 15, 2022 6:46 pmCheck out his videos, he went over a lot of research studies. Good quality stuff.

He does go over the peer-reviewed literature. You can get the sources by watching his videos.
You should understand that some papers can only be properly interpreted by professionals.

I absolutely understand that. Can you tell whether your single source is properly interpreting the literature from watching his videos?doubtingthomas wrote: ↑Fri Apr 15, 2022 8:07 pmHe does go over the peer-reviewed literature. You can get the sources by watching his videos.

I am not a medical doctor. I do recommend you watch his videos.

What I like about him is that he changes his mind all the time. And he invites other experts to his channel .
The guy is no Dr. Oz.
Here is all the research, let me know if you have the time to read and properly analyze all the papers.

Not a single source, I linked to "fight aging!" which is a different source. You wouldn't expect "fight aging!" to claim that "Metformin Remains a Poor Choice in the Treatment of Aging" if metformin was good.

How is a write-up on glomerular pressures in various types of genetically modified rats pertinent to the efficacy of rapamycin as an "anti-aging" drug?doubtingthomas wrote: ↑Fri Apr 15, 2022 9:14 pmhttps://www.sciencedirect.com/topics/ph ... ensive-rat

Why do you feel that a blog, written by someone with no formal research or medical background or training, should be viewed as an authoritative source?doubtingthomas wrote: ↑Fri Apr 15, 2022 9:14 pmNot a single source, I linked to "fight aging!" which is a different source.
