I understand that the Queen herself has moved away from the royal first-person plural in favour of an aloof third-person singular, referring to herself more often as "one" than as "we". Even such sparsely spoken registers as royalese show linguistic drift.

The present Queen Elizabeth, I believe, only refers to herself using the 'royal We' in formal documents, as in this example of a document commissioning an officer:
Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and of Her other Realms and Territories Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith, Lord High Admiral.
To our Trusty and Well Beloved ....... ....... Greeting:
We, reposing especial Trust and Confidence in your Loyalty, Courage, and good Conduct, do by these Presents Constitute and Appoint you to be an Officer in Our Royal Naval Reserve from the .... day of ........ ...... You are therefore carefully and diligently to discharge your Duty as such in the Rank of .............. or in such other Rank as We may from time to time hereafter be pleased to promote you to, of which a notification will be made in the London Gazette, and you are in such manner on such occasions as may be prescribed by Us to exercise and well discipline in their duties such officers, men and women as may be placed under your orders from time to time and use your best endeavours to keep them in good order and discipline.
And We do hereby Command them to Obey you as their superior Officer and you to observe and follow such Orders and Directions as from time to time you shall receive from Us, or any superior Officer, according to the Rules and Discipline of War, in pursuance of the Trust hereby reposed in you.
Given at Our Court, at Saint James's the .... day of ........ .... in the ..... Year of Our Reign
By Her Majesty's Command
The usage 'one' is not equivalent to 'I', but is impersonal and refers to a generality of persons, as in "In South Asia, it is polite to eat with one's fingers". In British usage, this usage is nowadays only found in speech by persons of higher social classes, usually in older age-groups - hence the present Queen.

In French, of course, 'on' (meaning English 'one') is common usage. "On dine au restaurant?" is a normal way of saying "Shall we have dinner in a/the restaurant?" There is no significant class or age association in the usage.

It appears to me that Trump has painted himself into a corner in which he dare not admit to having any doubt whatsoever that the election was illegally stolen from him, no matter how compelling and incontrovertible the contrary evidence. He could have saved himself a lot of grief if he could ever have brought himself to admit that he was mistaken about that, and maybe he could have retained a little more respect and credibility and even a better chance of successfully running again in 2024. It is too late for that now. He is simply too narcissistic and arrogant to ever admit he could be mistaken about anything.
No precept or claim is more suspect or more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

The impersonal "one" is still colloquial in a whole new English register. I use it myself now and then, as one does. Sean Bean may have given this a big push single-handedly. One does not simply walk. My understanding of the older upper-class usage is that it isn't literally a substitution of third person for first, but rather a tendency to express personal statements as if they were generalities. My preferences aren't worth mentioning but one doesn't like margarine.

In spoken French in France on is the new nous. I'm not sure this has caught on in the rest of the French-speaking world, but maybe it has and I am just out of touch.

Texas GOP just declared the 2020 Presidential election illegitimate. We are definitely in crazytown now.
Mark my word, if and when these preachers get control of the Republican party, and they're sure trying to do so, it's going to be a terrible damn problem. Frankly, these people frighten me. Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can't and won't compromise. I know, I've tried to deal with them.

I’d suggest Republicans clean up the mess they’ve created, but it seems they’re good with lying themselves into a civil war. I know I know whatabout - communists, socialists, trans, gays, and ethnic groups doing x-y-z, but the Big Lie is an order of magnitude more serious and destabilizing than what we’ve seen from the Left. It’d be nice if the Right understood this. Hrm. Maybe they do. :(

Hugh Nibley claimed he bumped into Adolf Hitler, Albert Einstein, Winston Churchill, Gertrude Stein, and the Grand Duke Vladimir Romanoff. Dishonesty is baked into Mormonism.

Just finished the current session. How the DOJ could NOT have Trump dead to rights would be beyond me! How disgusting, corrupt, and utterly sleazy. Trump and his cronies are slime.

Texas Republicans are pushing for a referendum so they can secede from the union.

I say let them. The Republicans would never win another election again without Texas' electoral votes.

I think the issue is proving intent.

California was red.

If Texas is able to secede without taking a share of the US debt they will need to build a wall along the Red River.

California hasn't been red in more than three decades, when the President was their former governor. But even then, it was barely red. That gap has been widening since 1992 and Presidential elections have gone more than 60% Democrat in the last four elections.

Right now Texas is turning more purple, thanks to so many Californians moving there.
