Sex Offender Thanks Ketanji Brown Jackson for Three-Month Prison Sentence: ‘She Knew This Was Going to Hold Me Back … So She Didn’t Really Want to Add on to That’

Image

The registered sex offender who was given three months in prison by Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, nominated for the Supreme Court by President Joe Biden, is speaking out and seemingly thanking the judge for her lenient sentence in his case.

In 2013, Jackson sentenced then-19-year-old Wesley Hawkins to three months in prison, three months of home confinement, and six years of supervision after he was convicted of possessing child pornography where boys 8 to 12-years-old were depicted in sex acts.

Specifically, Hawkins was found with 17 videos and 16 images of child pornography.

Federal sentencing guidelines called for Hawkins to receive eight to ten years in prison, but prosecutors took into account his lack of criminal history and requested two years in prison. Hawkins’ defense team requested a single day in jail and five years of supervision.

Following his sentence, in 2019, Hawkins was ordered by Jackson to complete his supervised release at a halfway house, according to the Washington Post, because he had been searching “sexually arousing, non-pornographic material and images of males 13 to 16-years-old” and was highly likely to re-offend.

In an interview with the Post, Hawkins seemingly thanked Jackson for the lenient sentence and acknowledged that he received far less prison time than many other sex offenders convicted for child pornography possession:

Perhaps most surprising, Hawkins said, was that he found himself feeling sympathy for the judge he had once been angry with for sending him to prison. [Emphasis added]

“I wasn’t very happy that she gave me three months, though after reflection when I was in jail, I was hearing from other people who said it was their first time arrested and they got five years, six years. [Emphasis added]

“I feel that she chose to take into consideration the fact that I was just getting started [in life] and she knew this was going to hold me back for years to come regardless,” he said, “so she didn’t really want to add on to that.” [Emphasis added]

In other remarks to the Post, Hawkins seemingly confirmed reports that Jackson ordered him to finish his supervised release in a halfway house because he was considered a high risk to re-offend based on his computer searches.

At her confirmation hearing, Jackson was asked if she had regretted sentencing Hawkins to only three months in prison. Jackson did not say if she regrets the decision.

“What I regret is that in a hearing about my qualifications to be a justice on the Supreme Court, we’ve spent a lot of time focusing on this small subset of my sentences and I’ve tried to explain,” Jackson said.

On Friday, Sens. Tom Cotton (R-AR), Chuck Grassley (R-IA), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), John Cornyn (R-Texas), Mike Lee (R-UT), Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Ben Sasse (R-NE), Josh Hawley (R-MO), John Kennedy (R-LA), Thom Tillis (R-NC), and Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) authored a letter to Jackson, demanding she provide documents and additional information on the Hawkins case.

“Your lenient sentencing in the Hawkins case was the subject of significant interest in the Committee’s review of your judicial record,” the Senators wrote. “Our review of your nomination requires that the Committee fully understand the circumstances that informed your actions in this case.”

What? Sex offender? She gave a rapist three months??

Oh not a rapist.

What? She gave a kiddie diddler three months? Outrage.

Oh, possession of child porn. No molestation. No physical abuse. No violence.

Part of his sentence was to register as a sex offender for 10 years. You know what that does to guy’s life, right?

This is the kind of guy who should be given some treatment — not left to rot in Prison for years (remember what that costs?)

The judge knew far more about the case and the defendant than you or Breitbart. But neither nor Brietbart actually care about the merits of her sentence, do you?

I wonder what happened to the defendant. Did he run straight from prison and diddle some kids? If only there were some way to find out…

Here is a link to a report on child pornography sentencing from the United States Sentencing Commission: https://www.ussc.gov/research/research- ... n-offenses

68 months is the average sentence given as of the time of the report (2021) for similar cases as this Defendant had. I'm for allowing a little more discretion than the sentencing guidelines currently allow judges. However, 3 months is a really low sentence.
Following his sentence, in 2019, Hawkins was ordered by Jackson to complete his supervised release at a halfway house, according to the Washington Post, because he had been searching “sexually arousing, non-pornographic material and images of males 13 to 16-years-old” and was highly likely to re-offend.
This is troubling as it means that this Defendant probably didn't learn the right lesson.

Do you think this was just a matter of learning the right lesson? How did his life go? Was he able to be employed? Find housing? Did he comply with the orders? Can he get treatment? Has he been getting it?

I am confident in thinking that this is an irrelevant nothingburger that was mostly about GOP Senators grandstanding for the cameras before midterms. Supreme Court Justices don’t spend much time sentencing pedophiles for looking at kiddie porn. The fact that she gave this person a low sentence is not really a big deal, in my opinion. Non-violent crime ought to be treated less punitively anyway. Our prisons are overcrowded as it is. Republicans are not against the nanny state if she is a cruel nanny.

Then why do most people guilty of the same crime spend five or more years in prison? You say that the US has a systemically racist justice system because black people are punished more severely for the same crimes as white people. It looks like it's the other way around.
I wonder what happened to the defendant. Did he run straight from prison and diddle some kids? If only there were some way to find out…
He went back to looking up pictures of little boys engaged in sex acts on his computer.

I know a boy who spent 4 years in Angola because at age 18 investigators for her parents found a picture of his 16 yoa girlfriends boobs that she willingly texted to him on his cell phone.
And when the Confederates saw Jackson standing fearless like a stonewall, the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

Read the report Dr. Exiled linked to. Most cases of possession had aggravating factors that he didn’t. The actual sentence range for possession cases with higher scores was 0 to around 220 months. She sentenced him to 3 month in prison and three months home detention. That’s not out of line for comparable cases at all.

And we’ve had this discussion about systemic racism before. Comparing two cases tells us exactly nothing about systemic racism.

No, he didn’t.

Why did the parent hire investigators?

Non-violent crime ought to be treated less punitively anyway.
Really? Because there's a large number of January 6 protesters who were guilty of nothing more than trespassing and they have been in a separate political prison under far worse conditions than our normal prisons for almost two years now still waiting trial.

Or what about the Dad who had the temerity to speak out of turn at a school board meeting when calling out their lie that no sexual assaults had taken place by transgender students in the girls bathroom in Loudon County Public Schools. The leftist prosecutor said the prisons were overcrowded as well, but she certainly found room for a political enemy in this case. In the view of Merrick Garland, this man is a domestic terrorists, while the Ft. Hood radical Islamic terrorist was guilty of nothing more than workplace violence.

Or what about the case in Canada where a father was jailed for refusing to use his transgender daughters preferred personal pronouns. Is that violent crime?

Was lying to the FBI a violent crime? Yet Michael Flynn would still be in jail today were it not for a presidential pardon. Roger Stone, etc the list goes on. Maybe you should amend it to say only liberals who commit nonviolent crimes should be free of incarceration. Democrat political opponents should have the justice department weaponized against them in the most severe penalties possible.
And when the Confederates saw Jackson standing fearless like a stonewall, the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

You are a marvel of moving goalposts, Ajax. Look, I am not here to defend the PC police of society. Either we have free speech or we don’t. There have obviously been plenty of hysterical reactions among opposing groups on the ideological spectrum. When it comes to treasonous action, however, I say prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law. Your disingenuous attempts to pass off as peaceful the group that beat and killed police officers in an attempt to overthrow an election that was both lawful and stood up to scrutiny multiple times is disgusting.
