I don't think it's quibbling to equate "caught" with something illegal. It's not illegal to look at non-pornographic pictures of anything to stimulate sexual arousal.

If you look at figure 31 of the first report you cited, it gives the rate of recidivism over the three years following release for non-production, child pornography offenders:

Overall recidivism: 27.6%

Overall total is broken down into categories:

Non-sexual crimes: 16.0%
Failure to register as sex offender: 7.3%
Sexual Recidivism: 4.3%

The percentage for contact sexual offenses was 1.4%

Absent a significant correlation between length of prison sentence and recidivism for this type of crime, if send a guy with no prior criminal record to the big house for a year, will he be more likely or less likely to commit another crime in the future? This guy went six years without reoffending.

Really, exactly how many police officers were killed on January 6? Why not prosecute them to the same extent BLM rioters were prosecuted for assaulting police officers?
Can you give me some specific examples? Name one BLM protestors that actually literally assaulted police officers in a way commensurate with this. Just one.

Secondly are you aware that there are people who have been in jail for over a year for nothing more than trespassing. That's all they did.
Joining a mob in an effort to overthrow the results of an election is not merely trespassing. But in any case, who, specifically are you talking about here?

Yes, but he re-offended to the point where he had to go to a halfway house because there was a fear that he would revert to looking at actual child pornography. One should wonder if a stronger sentence would have prevented that behavior. The report I cited says that stronger sentences prevent recidivism.

Sure, each case is different and the guy was young and the youth make mistakes that the older don't make. My criminal law professor would joke that crime rates would move to zero if all young men between 18 and 30 were locked up. Even so, child pornography is a scourge on society and a particular problem with our former religion.

We need to be vigilant and those who commit these crimes should be punished with an eye to protecting the victims from repeated criminal conduct. In this case, the judge made a mistake. I don't think this is disqualifying, but, she made a mistake. Perhaps the sentencing guidelines are antiquated, but, 3 months is questionable. The damage to society wasn't like other cases, but, the guy didn't seem to have been cured of his problems by the sentence given and perhaps a little more to his sentence would have cured the problem. You have to remember that the guy was upset at 3 months .... It seems he was a little delusional regarding the weight and depth of his conduct and perhaps unrepentant.
Myth is misused by the powerful to subjugate the masses all too often.

I wonder if the guy within the red circle used to fly a thin blue line flag at his house before he decided to come to DC to hack at officers with his hockey stick, because his candidate didn’t win?
