That 'slip' does take away my "play-by-the-numbers" compliment, but it's not decisively a mistake. As the Rev said, it was played as "have-your-cake-and-eat" pretty well.

I watch a wide variety of commentary on the war, including Fox and right-wing military junkies (not the totally pointless stuff like Tucker etc.) and I've not seen much criticism of Biden's performance on the war. From those who lean right, the biggest complaints have been Biden looks weak, or isn't being aggressive enough, not the other way around.

The case is often made, and those pushing this case the hardest are former KGB and oligarch commenters and conservative ex military/intelligence, that Putin's aggression is biased towards weakness. And so, if Putin is putting you in the contradiction "If you move I strike, if you don't move, I strike", then these folks argue he's most likely to escalate if you don't move. Across the board, the wisdom is that Biden needs to increase our aggression as time goes on. The difference is a matter of how quickly that happens. That statement was pretty aggressive, but so far I'm not seeing much criticism for it from anyone who matters.

The right-wing media in Russia is already off the hook, threatening special operations all across Europe, threatening nuclear annihilation of Poland. So it's hard to gauge effect by Russia's verbal responses anymore.

Politicians absolutely must "correct" Biden. If Ajax has an example of a conservative general or intelligence specialist having a heart attack over this, I'd take it into serious consideration.
