Most confederates fit into this category. That's my families perspective.

It is unquestionably true that the majority of Confederate Soldiers did not own slaves. The majority of German Soldiers in World War II did not gas Jews. I can acknowledge the battlefield bravery and sacrifice of Confederate soldiers, but if they were successful in their cause it would have meant the perpetuation of evil.

To paraphrase Barry Goldwater, honor in the cause of tyranny is not justice, and bravery in the defense of slavery is not virtue.
