"CDC Director Outlines Restructuring Plans"

Post by Xenophon »

Some interesting news coming down the pipe. Some of the specific changes from the article:
  • Elevating the laboratory department to report to the director
  • Restructuring the communications office
  • Request for more resources for data collection
  • Creating an online mechanism for sharing papers pre-publication
  • Speeding up data review processes
  • Expanded budget for salaries, training, hiring
  • Streamlined web portal for providers and patients alike.
I know it is early days yet and we'll have to see what all actually gets approved. It sounded as if a few of those will require congressional approval (the mandates for state data collection and the salaries/hiring/training changes) so I'm curious if that piece has any legs. All in all I think it's great that the CDC is attempting some introspection in order to be better prepared for the next go around and I see some positive changes here. I know some folks here have been much more plugged into the CDC during this time than I so I'm curious as to the thoughts on the restructure.
