Turns out FOX News is actually an enemy to the world.
Holy f----ng shitballs.
I've been in Brazil the past couple of weeks and there is a crucial upcoming election next week which I'm happy to say I won't be here for. But thus far I've been confronted on politics just about everywhere I go.
1. On my first day here I was told I shouldn't be vaccinated because people are having heart attacks after taking it.
2. I was told a relative of theirs died from COVID only because he lived in a small town too far from top notch healthcare cures like hydroxychloroquine.
3. I have on numerous times been shown Tucker Carlson youtube clips, poorly translated to Portuguese, suggesting things like he had Dr. Birx dead to rights on admitting the vaccines don't work.
4. I was shown a 4 second audio clip "proving" Joe Biden has lost his mind because he tried to shake hands with an invisible person. When I rejected their premise they all laughed at me like I was just some gullible idiot who refused to admit facts.
5. I have also been shown a "nine year old prophecy" on youtube given by an Evangelical pastor in the USA supposedly giving a prophecy about how Bolsonaro would save Brazil from destruction and that he was God's chosen. That's what the Portuguese title of the video says and they just believe it, but when listening to the entire rant it is merely some religious nut planning a ministry in Brazil and spoke of Brazil's upcoming salvation that had nothing to do with Bolsonaro at all. The people who showed me this aren't even religious, but suddenly they believe this crap because it supports their adoration of the Right Wing autocrat.
6. WHen they asked me at the dinner table whether I was Democrat or Republican, I said, "Jesus, after listening to you guys now I'm afraid to say." They laughed outloud, and then the wife said all Democrats in the USA are communists. I shook my head and asked her to define communist. She couldn't. When I did it for her, she backtracked and said maybe not communists but definitely socialists. She couldn't define that one either. And of course, my sister-in law kept sending me Tucker Carlson youtube clips that were shared to her by this same family.
I spent about two days calmly explaining to her that Tucker is the worst of fake news in the USA and I pretty much convinced her that all the crap she was trying to tell me had been debunked long ago, and that it is kinda silly for Brazilians to be so presumptuous as to think they're going to educate an American about America's politics simply because they watched a few poorly translated videos on youtube. But that's the kind of blind confidence FOX instills in its target audiences. It isn't enough to be duped like gullible sheeple, you have to in turn respond by spreading that same gospel to everyone else. It makes them feel smart to be able to confidently say things like, "I bet you didn't know what I know."
