Freedom of the Press... and Murder

Post by Doctor Steuss »

Some local happenings, that are surreal.

The Clark County Public Administrator was arrested yesterday in connection with the murder of an investigative journalist. The journalist had reported on various problems under the Administrator's management, including an "inappropriate relationship," and was working on an additional story (awaiting a public records request) when he was murdered.

Amongst the evidence that police have released so far is his car matching a car leaving the scene of the stabbing, as well as his DNA.

Article in Review Journal -- the paper he worked for, about the arrest.

The end of it all is kind of bizarre as well. He comes home, in a disposable coverall of sorts, and is taken away in an ambulance.

Oh, and unrelated, but just because Las Vegas appears to be trying to give Florida a run for its money: A drunk driver on cocaine who killed a drunk driver on meth was recently charged. (Link)

I had a case against Robert Telles and knew him a little bit and had some interaction with Jeff German when I was representing a politician a few years back. It's a sad story. People probably would have forgotten Telles and his trist at the Public Administrator's office as time passed. German could be tenacious but time moves on and other stories take over. This is Las Vegas for hell sakes, a city built by the MOB. People forget these things. Telles threw away a career and killed an innocent man over something that was Telles own fault. Just deal with it and move on, man. However, now he has to contemplate spending the rest of his life in jail and/or face the death penalty and Mr. German needlessly lost his life and the attendant suffering Mr. German's family is obviously going through is tragic. He couldn't even shoot straight when he apparently tried to kill himself when the cops were moving in.

Wow, it looks like it was his fellow reporters who were responsible for finding out that Telles had a vehicle that matched: Link
Some of her colleagues focused on some odd, angry, and often spiteful tweets directed at German by one man: Telles, a 42-year-old Democrat who serves as Clark County’s public administrator. It wasn’t out of the norm for journalists to receive threats over their work, Erickson said, pointing to voicemails that she said were worse than what Telles tweeted at German.

But the attacks led reporters and editors to search Telles’ address on Google Maps, where they found a photo of the vehicle that matched the police description in his driveway.

It was that revelation that led editors to assign reporters to stake out the house, hoping to get a glimpse of the car to confirm it. Reporters then drove past Telles’ house, where they captured photos of Telles washing his car just hours after police described the car. Police later carried out a search warrant on Telles’ home the next morning while he wasn’t home, and Telles’ car was towed by noon Wednesday.

Reporters doing their job and it doesn't hurt that the victim was one of theirs.

I guess your omission of Telle's pokitical party tells us which party he belonged to.
And when the Confederates saw Jackson standing fearless like a stonewall, the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

This is local and has nothing to do with what political party to which Telles belongs or doesn't belong. He was the Public Administrator, an office that is pretty apolitical, like the County Recorder or Assessor. It's a case where Telles was not the preferred person that the prior Public Administrator wanted and there was a campaign against him. Now, Telles having the affair and the alleged discrimination was his failing. It doesn't justify killing Mr. German and Jeff German did not deserve to die for doing his job. Nevertheless, it isn't a case of a Democrat Party failing because he was a Democrat. That's too simplistic of an assessment of what went on.

Report: Las Vegas Democrat Accused of Killing Journalist Will Keep $130K Salary in Jail
The Democrat official accused of murdering a journalist will reportedly continue drawing paychecks while behind bars in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Last week, Clark County Public Administrator Robert Telles was charged in the stabbing death of the Las Vegas Review-Journal’s Jeff German, according to the New York Post.

German, who was 69-years-old, was found dead outside his home on September 3. Officials claimed Telles, whom German had written investigative reports exposing corruption, had self-inflicted stab wounds when he was taken into custody.

But “for now, he’s still an elected officer and he’ll get paid while he’s in jail,” Clark County Commissioner Tick Segerblom reportedly said Friday.

“We can take the scope of work away from him, but as far as him having the title and getting the salary, it is that way, because the voters picked him,” Segerblom added.

According to the Post, Telles received $130,000 annually.

Video footage showed a reporter on Wednesday confronting Telles outside his home.

“Did you do this? Did you commit this murder? Did you do this?” She asked as he opened the garage door and went inside while ignoring their questions:

However, the Democrat official’s DNA was found at the scene where law enforcement said German was killed, Breitbart News reported on Thursday.

“Police said in a press conference that Telles’s DNA was found at German’s murder scene and thus charged him with the fatal stabbing. Police also said they found a pair of bloody sneakers and a hat worn by Telles at the time of the murder,” the outlet said.

Video footage showed Telles’ appearance in court on Thursday. He was denied bail:

Meanwhile, county officials have taken some measures against Telles such as not allowing him at county facilities.

According to a police captain, Telles was upset when he realized German had been investigating more alleged wrongdoings, the Post report concluded.

I was mainly pointing out that the news would have pointed out his political party if he were Republican whether it had anything to do with the case or not.

You’re actually correct on this one. I recall the coverage of REPUBLICAN Sen. Larry “wide stance” Craig’s arrest in a Minneapolis airport Gay sex sting and subsequent ruling that he owed ~$250,000 to the US Treasury for illegally using campaign funds to fight those spurious allegations of salacious homosexual acts committed in Men’s bathrooms. The newspapers unfairly identified REPUBLICAN Sen. Larry “I’m a wide guy” Craig’s party affiliation along with his Mormon faith - the idea, of course, is to point out the obvious hypocrisy of a REPUBLICAN Mormon legislator who liked to hungrily grab men’s cocks in men’s bathrooms, which is odd.

Totally unfair and below the belt, which is ironic because that’s where REPUBLICAN Mormon Larry Craig would often find his mouth feverishly searching out penises and the such.

Hugh Nibley claimed he bumped into Adolf Hitler, Albert Einstein, Winston Churchill, Gertrude Stein, and the Grand Duke Vladimir Romanoff. Dishonesty is baked into Mormonism.

Sometimes reading helps.

From the article in the OP:
The 45-year-old Democrat lost his re-election bid in the primary after German’s findings were published.
From the second article I linked about it, which was from a very liberal source (the Daily Beast):
Telles, a 45-year-old Democrat who serves as Clark County’s public administrator.
