A Texas Democrat-led city approved a $2 million dollar contract with a charter bus company in order to transport migrants to other cities.
The contract between El Paso, Texas and GoGo Charters LLC was approved by the El Paso city council on Monday by a 3-1 vote, and the private company will "transport migrants to other cities as needed," according to WETM.
The city, which borders Mexico, has already bussed more than 550 migrants out of the town by the charter bus company, according to the report. City-run busses have taken migrants to bus stations, the airport, and shelters in the area.
However, according to the report, the number of people released from federal immigration custody has risen substantially over the past week as hundreds of Venezuelan migrants arrived who both cannot be expelled from the country under Title 42 and don't have U.S. sponsors.
The $2 million will be spent over 16 months, and the city is hoping for a reimbursement from the Biden administration.
City Manager Tony Gonzalez called the situation an "emergency" and said that there simply isn't money for these kinds of circumstances.
"This is an emergency. We don’t have money set aside for these particular circumstances. You are giving us the ability to spend up to $2 million with this company; that’s all we’re authorized with this particular company," Gonzalez said.
"We knew we needed to pay for things that are not within our charter […] so we wanted you to approve that ordinance to give us the ability to do things like the processing/welcome center, to pay for food and water, when necessary, to pay for hotels, to pay for transport," Gonzalez said. "There’s a cost to do that, several thousands of dollars. And when you get into three, four, five charters per day, it adds up."
The report also states that El Paso has sent out 25 charter busses since Aug. 23, and added that five more will be sent out on Monday.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre blasted Republican Gov. Greg Abbott as well as Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Thursday for sending migrants to other states across the country.
Abbott sent two busses containing mover 100 migrants to a location near Vice President Kamala Harris' residence at the Naval Observatory in Washington, D.C., on Thursday morning. On Wednesday, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis sent two full planes of illegal immigrants to Martha's Vineyard.
The Biden White House has yet to criticize El Paso.

LOL! All you have to do is read the El Paso papers to see how deceptive this Fox Not News article is. El Paso has been experiencing a surge of asylum seekers from Venezuela. The U.S. can't ship them back to Mexico, because Mexico will not accept refugees from Venezuela. And the U.S. can't ship them back to Venezuela because we broke off diplomatic relations with Venezuela a few years back. Also, Venezuelan refugees are one of the groups most likely to be able to establish the basis for political asylum.
This surge of folks overwhelmed the capacity El Paso had built or acquired to house refugees until they could move on to wherever they were headed. So, the city government set up an arrangement under which it could charter a bus to some other city when it found a busload of folks that wanted to go there. So, no offers of housing or jobs. No promise to take them to a city and then drop them off on an island where jobs are highly seasonal during the off season, no giving them fake phone numbers to call, no giving them incorrect instructions about how to change their mailing addresses. Just an offer of a ride to a destination to which the people had said they wanted to go.
Contrast that with Abbott, who had a busload dropped off in front of the Vice President's residence. Like DeSantis's stunt, this is just petty grievance theater, using men, women and children as props.

That's horrible! DeSantis and his accomplices in this crime deserve lengthy prison time for this and should never be allowed to run for public office again! I fervently hope that what they did will arouse enough outrage in enough honest and fair-minded people regardless of political party to get them voted out of office!

Then Mexico needs to enforce their border and stop allowing their country to be a highway of illegal immigration. We should send them all to the Mexican presidents private villa and tell him to do his job.
And the U.S. can't ship them back to Venezuela because we broke off diplomatic relations with Venezuela a few years back.
So Venezuela gets to open their prisons and dump poverty and crime into our country as a result? If we can't agree to enforce our borders what's the point in even belonging to a United States of America. Perhaps we need to build a wall between the blue and red states of the US.

Then send them to blue America. They can build statues to Kevin Graham and Bernie Sanders. They'll feel right at home with Democratic socialism. We won't be accepting people with communist tendencies in our community.

Ajax, you've been urged on a number of occasions to learn something about the laws that apply to those seeking asylum in the U.S. I'm not going to debate your grievance theater when you can't take the time to learn the basics.
