DeSantis? You mean that moron who just stood before the cameras to tell his ignorant base that no one questioned slavery until the American Revolution? Because of America's intrinsic moral superiority, we're the ones who ended slavery first?
Obviously the enslaved were the first to question slavery, but to Republican racists like DeSantis, they don't really count as people.

ETA: I just looked up DeSantis' education. I give even money that he knew what he was saying was factually incorrect, and that he said it to score points with who he's courting as his base. I think that if he runs for President, the biggest mistake Dems can make is underestimating his intellect, and assuming he's another Trump.

So the founding fathers said "All Men are created equal", which leaves me a bit confused about the American Civil War. I'm tempted to put Desantis's comments down to ignorance and stupidity, but it seems much too calculated for that. This is Orwellian newspeak: slavery is freedom.
The polite 'states' rights' is a fictional argument.
The Southern way of life was predicated on the idea that all men are not created equal.
