I cannot wrap my head around the almost universal support that is given to Trump and his ilk (a category that includes Herschel Walker and Ted Cruz) by conservative christians and many Mormons. The lifestyles of Trump and Walker make a mockery of Christian and traditional family values. It is jarring that these guys can be adulterers, pay hush money to porn stars, lie, pay for multiple abortions, and still have the undying support of people who claim to follow God. It is hypocrisy so blatant that it's almost unbelievable.

I am totally flabbergasted by that myself. One of the things that bothers me the most is that they gained their popularity largely via a blatant appeal to bigotry and intolerance and how many of my fellow Americans still had enough latent bigotry and xenophobia in their souls to be swayed by that approach.
No precept or claim is more suspect or more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

I woke up this morning and for some reason, out of nowhere, I had the idea that the GOP should get to the point and produce the following ad:

Vote for Herschel Walker: He's damned Stupid, exactly what you're looking for in a representative

I mean, why beat around the bush?
Religion is for people whose existential fear is greater than their common sense.

The god idea is popular with desperate people.

I'm learning a lot about the future of this republic from justice corrupted. Al Gore also brought lawsuits to fight his election loss.

In fact the weaponization of the FBI and IRS and silencing of political opponents through threRs of personal tax audits are as old as the institutions themselves. Trump was the reponse to such bullying and squelching of free speech. His movement just conservatives deciding to fight back. Don't expect to see conservatives bowing down and submitting a la Mitt Romney anytime soon. DeSantis has already shown he's not afraid to throw a punch.
And when the Confederates saw Jackson standing fearless like a stonewall, the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

Except you've put forth no effort to verify his version of reality, you're just regurgitating it like you do Breitbart articles. When you're finished with the book, I'd say pick one or two of the most damning evidences against the left and present it with enough context that we can consider it.

Cruz is pretty hard on Nixon in the book as well. It's interesting that we still have no law against a president using the IRS or Justice department to silence political opposition. FDR specifically made a deal with Huey Long to drop tax fraud charges against him in exchange for Long's political endorsement, vote and support.

Sure, that's the way a good apologist works. Burn Nixon to appear neutral, as he's not central to the narrative, and then cherry pick your way through what matters most to right-wingers today: Obama / Biden / (possibly) Clinton were all bad and Trump is all good. Except for depending on when the book came out, there might need to be some flaw in Trump that DeSantis can fill.

Apples and oranges. Gore didn't call for a mob to swarm the capitol or tour the country giving rallies telling rabid fans to "stop the steal". Not to mention there was a lot of criticism in the legal community about how the courts handled the situation. Maybe learn something by reading actual court decisions, the works of legal scholars, etc.

It's just like my patients that think the best doc is Dr. Google. I guess you'd recommend people don't see eyecare professionals cause the internet has the "actual truth"...

In October 2012, Rep. Elijah Cummings, a Maryland Democrat, initiated an investigation into alleged voter suppression by True the Vote. Cummings wrote a letter to Engelbrecht, raising questions about voter challenges in Ohio, North Carolina, Wisconsin and Maryland. He indicated that if the efforts to challenge voter registrations were "intentional, politically motivated and widespread across multiple states, they could amount to a criminal conspiracy to deny legitimate voters their constitutional rights."[24] In February 2014, True the Vote filed complaints against Cummings including charges of ethics violations after Internal Revenue Service (IRS) emails released by the House Oversight Committee showed staff working for Democratic Ranking Member Elijah Cummings communicated with the IRS multiple times between 2012 and 2013 about True the Vote. Prior to this revelation, Cummings had maintained that at no time was he nor his staff in communication with IRS officials regarding True the Vote. Information contained within the emails show that the IRS and Cummings' staff asked for nearly identical information from Engelbrecht about her organization, implying coordination and improper sharing between the two groups of confidential taxpayer information.[citation needed]
