It really blows my mind that anyone on the Right would dare deny any of this because it's been a Conservative Pipe Dream for literally decades now. I would say right up there with banning abortion. I remember hearing George Bush talking about privatizing it and I remember Rush Limbaugh on the radio constantly talking about getting rid of it because it is Socialism.

The voters demand it. If Republicans were to refuse to increase the debt ceiling, they'd be voted out of office pretty quickly.

It really blows my mind that anyone on the Right would dare deny any of this because it's been a Conservative Pipe Dream for literally decades now. I would say right up there with banning abortion. I remember hearing George Bush talking about privatizing it and I remember Rush Limbaugh on the radio constantly talking about getting rid of it because it is Socialism.

Rush Limbaugh knew that getting rid of social security and medicare was politically unfeasible. His point when someone would say, I have to vote Democrat else the Republicans will take away my social security," was to point out that this accusation against Republicans has been made since the program began and it has never happened in over 70 years. Abolition of socialist security is a dream of mine but I'm in the minority and have no say on the issue. That being said, we're looking at social security tax jumping to 25% of your income and cutting benefits which will basically cut out anyone who is over 67 and can still work and increasing benefits to those who can prove permanent disability to keep up with inflation. At least Bernie Sanders is honest about taxes going up to 60%of your income on legal workers to pay for democratic socialism. He doesn't float the politically powerful lie that taxes will only go up on the 1% that seems to carry the day in just about every election.

At that point, if nothing else is done, the program could pay 80 percent of scheduled benefits, mostly out of workers’ ongoing contributions, a figure that would slip to 74 percent in 75 years. Contrary to popular misconception, benefits would not stop.

Let’s see if howler monkeys on the Right do anything to prevent this from happening - probably not, though.

Not for those unwilling to work SS wouldn't stop. But it's a lie to call SS a forced retirement savings as it was originally sold to the voters. It's becoming the de facto welfare program and nothing more.
