And now we have some spam on the Terrestrial forum about hackers for hire.
It's notable, however, that while the purpose of whoever posted that is different than the political and personal spam that's now common here, their behavior is exactly the same.
Forum spammers of all kinds are just trying to promote their idea. They don't care one whit about what people who disagree think. They will not be persuaded. In fact, to argue with them actually promotes their threads so it's a net positive for them.
Ultimately, there is little difference at all between a commercial spammer and a non-commercial one. Telling a bad-faith actor that they're wrong is like trying to do business with a fake Nigerian prince.

The board actually receives a fair amount of bogus registrations and spam posts. Most of these are seen first and reported by ‘the regulars’. This particular post was spotted prior to any report and subsequently removed from that subforum, but the mod team won’t usually be the first to see these. Please let us know if you run across any spam or solicitations, and we’ll take action against it.
Thanks!

is there anyway to flag an account or put it in queue if the first post contains a link? maybe that's asking too much of the software.canpakes wrote: ↑Wed Mar 01, 2023 6:21 pmAlready booted.Alphus and Omegus wrote: ↑Wed Mar 01, 2023 4:48 pmAnd now we have some spam on the Terrestrial forum about hackers for hire.

I haven't seen that function in phpBB, but folks are always developing plug in modules for it. Dean Robbers is probably the most knowledgable here on what the software can and can't do.Marcus wrote: ↑Wed Mar 01, 2023 6:52 pmis there anyway to flag an account or put it in queue if the first post contains a link? maybe that's asking too much of the software.canpakes wrote: ↑Wed Mar 01, 2023 6:21 pm
