And now we have some spam on the Terrestrial forum about hackers for hire.

It's notable, however, that while the purpose of whoever posted that is different than the political and personal spam that's now common here, their behavior is exactly the same.

Forum spammers of all kinds are just trying to promote their idea. They don't care one whit about what people who disagree think. They will not be persuaded. In fact, to argue with them actually promotes their threads so it's a net positive for them.

Ultimately, there is little difference at all between a commercial spammer and a non-commercial one. Telling a bad-faith actor that they're wrong is like trying to do business with a fake Nigerian prince.

I haven't seen that function in phpBB, but folks are always developing plug in modules for it. Dean Robbers is probably the most knowledgable here on what the software can and can't do.
