I confess... I am John Lovitz from the past. My DeLorean is parked outside.

The god idea is popular with desperate people.

I don't believe the above is accurate in regards to what democratic socialism entails nor what is being contested. To be honest, I don't know what democratic socialism actually entails given it is never presented in a way that clearly distinguishes it from other systems. I'm curious.
Honor, I apologize for taking so long to to respond to your above comments. Here is the view of democratic socialism that resonates the most with me, as quoted from WikipediA's article on the subject:
Labour Party politician Peter Hain, who identifies with libertarian socialism,[60] gives the following definition:

"Democratic socialism should mean an active, democratically accountable state to underpin individual freedom and deliver the conditions for everyone to be empowered regardless of who they are or what their income is. It should be complemented by decentralisation and empowerment to achieve increased democracy and social justice. ... Today democratic socialism's task is to recover the high ground on democracy and freedom through maximum decentralisation of control, ownership and decision making. For socialism can only be achieved if it springs from below by popular demand. The task of socialist government should be an enabling one, not an enforcing one. Its mission is to disperse rather than to concentrate power, with a pluralist notion of democracy at its heart.[61]"
I don't think it should mean the abolishment of capitalism, but there should be reasonable legal restraints on the abuses of capitalism and it's tendency to unfairly exploit people and maximize corporate and exorbitant individual wealth without limit or regard for environmental consequences. Still, I think individual creativity and free enterprise and entrepreneurship should be encouraged, and the government should help to facilitate the establishment (or, at least not stand in the way) of forming cooperatives that help all workers to achieve or enhance a sense of self worth and pride in shared ownership in the enterprise in which they are employed.

I regard myself an intellectual lightweight compared to many of my favorite fellow posters to this board (including you), so I appreciate your comments and how they almost always give me valuable food for thought and enhance my understanding.

No precept or claim is more suspect or more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

No thanks. Putin is a communist and just like American Democrats seeks global communist rule.
You couldn't be more wrong. Putin is no more a communist than you are! He is a despicable, authoritarian despot who cares only about further enhancing his own already obscene wealth and power. Nor do American Democrats seek global communist rule, though most of them do recognize that many of world's problems are global in scope and can only be solved or ameliorated by widespread and honest cooperation between the world's most powerful political entities, communist or otherwise.

Your definition of communist is obviously just anything and everything you don't happen to agree with, no matter how far removed it is from actual communism. This is not only useless, but childish!

I'm fairly sure, no matter what, that they don't really give a damn if they make sense or sound like morons. In fact, I'm sure they go full moron so they are naturally attacked for being moronic and can claim the resulting victimhood, because yes, they are that damned pathetic.
And ajax, in particular, further reinforces and underscores that conclusion with virtually every post he makes!

I disagree. As long as the American people still think it's a good idea, it'll continue.
Sadly, you are right again. What I meant was that the Republican party will likely not be nominating these kind of candidates anymore. But having another Republican president is extremely unlikely. It doesn't even take a majority of people to be in favor of nation building or bankrupting the country. The deep state and globalist oligarchs choose our president and make the rules, not the voters.
I will concede this much: that the main goal of oligarchs (global or otherwise) and today's Republican, MAGA conservatives (and possibly even some of the least progressive Democrats) seems to be to: "choose our president and make the rules, not the voters."

Look what they did to Bernie in 2016 and 2020. The oligarchs and the deep state hate Bernie more than they hate Trump.
And when the Confederates saw Jackson standing fearless like a stonewall, the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

Just to show how nefarious the Deep State is, and how east coast liberal juries only rule in ways that uphold the woke mob, and the liberal agenda, we have this...
A jury on Monday found in favor of former Starbucks regional director Shannon Phillips, who sued the company for wrongfully firing her, claiming she was terminated for being White.

Phillips, who worked for Starbucks for about 13 years and managed a region of stores in the area, was fired after the the arrest of two Black men at a Philadelphia Starbucks in April 2018.

The New Jersey jury returned a verdict of $25.6 million, including $25 million for punitive damages and $600,000 in compensatory damages, according to Console Mattiacci Law, which represents Phillips. The jury ruled unanimously after a six day trial, the lawyers said, noting that Phillips will also be seeking back and front pay.

Deep State wrangled guilty pleas from Hunter Biden. Hunter Biden is obviously now a Republican, which is why he was targeted.

I … actually think that could work. If he were to run for office, say Congress as a Republican, and just acted like a loopy dope raging at Democrats and Big Government, he’d win. 100%.
