Michael Shermer had some interesting information:

UFO whistleblower David Grusch first floated the idea of "disclosure" to fellow UFOlogists

at a Star Trek convention, while reciting the opening scene of The Wrath of Khan?
I ended up watching the full news nation interview and re-reading the parts that made me cringe in the transcript and the bad parts really are pretty bad.

The most interesting part for me was this:

People started confiding in me, they approached me. I have plenty of current, and former senior Intelligence Officers that came to me, many of which I knew almost my whole career, that confided to me they were a part of a program. They named the program, I've never heard of it. And they told me, based on their oral testimony, and they provided me documents and other proof that there was in fact a program that the UAP Task Force was not read into

In general, I don't think he's outright lying, I think he has "seen things" that others believe indicate UFOs. He could overplay the extant evidence for the conclusions others have come to that have now convinced him, but he leaves it at things like materials with stunning molecular arrangements; strange material is a teaser, not a craft.

In his filed complaint, it sounds like he named a program by name that was kept secret from the UAP task force and that could be worth something. Of course, it isn't clear if the "broad retrieval program" included UFOs or was exclusively UFOs, if it wasn't the latter, then that's a cover-up even if they found things that weren't actually UFOs.
