I don't know how a class action lawsuit would happen in this case but I have a hunch it's totally possible.

What I really appreciate about his handling of the matter is that he's the one person so well qualified to identify the links between the church and the therapy groups they refer to, why they do it, and how it relates to religious concepts that LDS have been taught and were reinforced over their life course.

It really makes the difference in a case coverage like this. He needs to be interviewed long form on major media. I think that could actually happen, too.

I know what people are saying about him in Terrestrial and why. I don't disagree with the critical perspective of that particular point in time, but I think he is masterfully and admirably handling all aspects of this case. He knows what the tentacles are and he articulates it so directly and impactfully. It is much needed to access the Never community. I know what he's talking about but the majority of Nevers have no blessed idea how deep this goes or how self feeding it is, because they've never investigated.

No. I've never been drunk, either.

So it's natural?

I thought John did a very nice job of clearly explaining how LDS scripture and leaders have created an existential spiritual problem for the members, how a predatory industry grows up within the culture to "solve" the created problem, and how the LDS leadership supports and finances that industry through referral lists, decentralized recommendations, and decentralized payments to the industry. I also thought he was very smart at the end to clarify what he had actual evidence of and what was informed speculation on his part. If LDS bishops were referring members to Connexions or subsidizing "treatment" at Connexions, I really hope the evidence of that comes out.

I was out before there was an internet, so I don't recall much emphasis placed on porn. I don't even recall interviews with my bishop going beyond the general "are you morally clean?" I don't remember any specific mention of masterbation in an interview until my mission interview. But that was in a brand new ward with a bishop I'd never met. Thank God I was never told to read The Miracle of Forgiveness.

I'm not sure there's a viable class action in this mess. But I think publicizing what has been happening is likely to help victims -- especially those who are afraid of retaliation if they come forward.

Thin was a typo for this. This was referring to the collective guilt, shame, and dysfunction caused by the LDS Porn therapy. It was from a question posed directly by the video author. The major contention is that masturbation is a normative sexual behavior, rather than a crime just short of murder which is being pushed by the LDS Church.

Not crime. Sin. And the First Amendment doesn’t permit the government to tell churches what they can and can’t teach on the subject of sin. That’s established Supreme Court precedent that I can’t imagine the current court changing.

Is anyone aware of a person who has successfully sued a porn therapist for professional malpractice? That would be a good thing to know.

Thanks for clarifying that sin part. ByTW, if you combined coffee with masturbation would you have a sin greater than murder?

Perhaps such a class action suit would be groundbreaking. The LDS conception of porn and masturbation seems out of touch with humanity since the end of the Victorian era.
