O'Donnell rips the media to shreds

Post by Jersey Girl »

You guys. You need to listen to this total take down of the national news media by Lawrence O'Donnell. Not often do you see O'Donnell totally pissed off as you do here where he contrasts media coverage of Trump v. how it's handling Harris and has handled Biden and his representatives in the past. Most of us here have taken note of the uneven coverage we've seen. As O'Donnell points out, it's well beyond uneven and here he shows us how.

Run time: 24:34 and WELL worth your time.

Thank you for sharing that, Jersey Girl. I wish the media would stop giving that buffoon and his band of flying monkeys oxygen. It’s infuriating and exhausting at the same time. Nothing he says makes any sense, he lies all the time, he’s a crass and humorless moron, and is utterly bereft of morality.

From the London Times’ Nate White:
Someone asked “Why do some British people not like Donald Trump?”

Nate White, an articulate and witty writer from England, wrote this magnificent response:

A few things spring to mind;

Trump lacks certain qualities which the British traditionally esteem.

For instance, he has no class, no charm, no coolness, no credibility, no compassion, no wit, no warmth, no wisdom, no subtlety, no sensitivity, no self-awareness, no humility, no honour and no grace – all qualities, funnily enough, with which his predecessor Mr. Obama was generously blessed.

So for us, the stark contrast does rather throw Trump’s limitations into embarrassingly sharp relief.

Plus, we like a laugh. And while Trump may be laughable, he has never once said anything wry, witty or even faintly amusing – not once, ever.

I don’t say that rhetorically, I mean it quite literally: not once, not ever. And that fact is particularly disturbing to the British sensibility – for us, to lack humour is almost inhuman.

But with Trump, it’s a fact. He doesn’t even seem to understand what a joke is – his idea of a joke is a crass comment, an illiterate insult, a casual act of cruelty.

Trump is a troll. And like all trolls, he is never funny and he never laughs; he only crows or jeers.

And scarily, he doesn’t just talk in crude, witless insults – he actually thinks in them. His mind is a simple bot-like algorithm of petty prejudices and knee-jerk nastiness.

There is never any under-layer of irony, complexity, nuance or depth. It’s all surface.

Mr White certainly has me banged to rights, and I think many other people in the UK.

Also, the kind of Americans that I meet do, I think, tend to feel pretty well the same way about the weird orange guy. I suspect that the kind of Americans that feel otherwise just don't often go abroad.

Fantastic. This is O’Donnell at his best.
"I have learned with what evils tyranny infects a state. For it frustrates all the virtues, robs freedom of its lofty mood, and opens a school of fawning and terror, inasmuch as it leaves matters not to the wisdom of the laws, but to the angry whim of those who are in authority.”

"Most of his responses came from that vast well of stupidity that takes up most of his brain."

I was just watching the video and I had to jot down that phrase. Good stuff.

Absolutely, Jersey Girl. I was sad when it was over.

O'Donnell has always seemed to me to be the most realistic commentator on the Trump plague (or what the morons call TDS).

How I wish I had the skill to write the above! It's elegant and yet, it's biting. You know if you extract certain parts of that, you're going to come out with the criteria for NPD. Try it. ;) Love where it pegs him as a troll. Would like to see the Harris/Walz campaign pick up on that and use it to their advantage. Because it's true.

And yes, I thought the O'Donnell commentary was a stand out. He not only criticized Trump but stridently hammered members of his own profession.

Holy cats...this from The Lincoln Project. Same presser. Another attack on the media. The host just called it a tidal wave of BS.

So happy to see commentators finally holding the media's feet to the fire. Journalists. Reporters. I think not! And at this point, I'm wondering if Trump really believes his own lies. In other words, is he delusional?

ETA: Tons of swearage in the above. Sorry I didn't mention that when I posted. I'm from Jersey. Doesn't bother me at all.

The media fails to mention that Trump is a compulsive sociopathic liar. That is a quality much beloved by the MAGAs.

Just opened the CNN website. Here are the "headlines" that are listed prominently re: politics.
Trump spreads false conspiracy theory about Harris' crowd size

The former president claimed on social media that photos of Harris’ Michigan crowd were faked and said she should be ‘disqualified’

Vance accuses Walz of ‘lying’ about his own military record

Dana Bash asks JD Vance about Harris’ racial identity 2:30

Analysis How pillows are helping prime Trump supporters for another ‘stolen’ election

Vance says mass deportations of undocumented immigrants should start at 1 million people

Trump campaign says it has been hacked

When Trump attacks Harris’ racial identity, these Americans say it’s personal

Harris leans on the trappings of her office and Trump’s own playbook in quest to win White House
Call me crazy but this isn't what I expect from a news outlet. The only "headline" that comes close to covering policy from either of the campaigns is this one: Vance says mass deportations of undocumented immigrants should start at 1 million people

Anyone else seeing this stuff? Anyone else sick of the news media exclusively reporting the personal attacks, innuendo, false claims, conspiracy theories, sensationalism, and general mudslinging? These are headlines? This is news?

Anyone else think this is actual presidential campaign news or is it just me who thinks it's all National Enquirer worthy garbage?
