I heard a podcast on this topic and all I could think was that Trump was poisoning the relationship of every man that's immature enough to admire him. I have a young adult daughter who let's me in on what young women think (at least in her circle), and she doesn't know anyone who would date a Trump fan. Anecdotal, I know, but it's backed up by polling. Playing video games and supporting Trump were the two biggest turn offs for young women in one survey I read. They seem to want a man like Tim Walz, not JD Vance.

One thing I will say: I believe I've become a lot less misogynistic over the last 30 years, a lot less aggressive, and a lot more considerate of my wife and daughter. Some of that might be reduced testosterone in my advancing years, but I chalk most of it up to just living with women I care about. If the average guy perceives this as the feminization of men, they might have a point. The problem is thinking it's a bad thing. I way prefer who I am today than who I was 30 (or even 10) years ago. I look back on my youth and it's both interesting and frightening how much of a dick I could be to my family and not realize it.

I'm sure I still have that problem at times, but it's not as bad as it used to be... or so I tell myself.

by the way, if you're pro-life (meaning you're in the camp that thinks Americans should be having more babies), you should be doing everything you can to elect Harris. If it's Trump, it will only reinforce the "permission structure" (this year's popular phrase, it seems) for young men to act like clowns, pushing them further away from young women. I've heard a few pundits say that the gender divide in this election is getting so wide, they're concerned about the birth rate dropping even more.

ETA: This is aside from the fact that abortions have increased since the Dobbs decision.

His choice of example is just … confusing … to be charitable.

I did notice on another clip (I’ll post it if I find it) that while Tucker was getting enthusiastic applause for the ‘Daddy’s coming home!” line, the crowd got noticeably more silent when he immediately followed that up with his rambling about vigorously spanking the rebellious daughter. Maybe even some of those MAGA fans sensed that something was fundamentally creepy about that part.

I just saw the clip. It's sounds way worse than it does written down (and reading it was uncomfortable, to say the least). I mean... ewww. damned gross.

The way people were going nuts over "Daddy's coming home!" was also gross and disgusting, not to mention pathetic. His fans are just as disturbed as he is.

I think it's more biographical than metaphor. Tucker Carlson is the bad little girl in that story.
