Being that this discussion board has many ex-Mormon members, I thought it would be interesting to see what y'all thought about shunning.
Joy Reid (one of the most openly racist people on TV, in my opinion) had a Yale professor on her show the other day, The professor urges people to shun family members who voted for Trump.
Is this pure cult behavior? considering that some of you may have experienced shunning in the past (or are currently experiencing shunning) I wanted to ask you. Is this pure cult behavior?
Lastly, have any of you disowned family members and/or friends because they voted for Trump? Are any of you planning to disown family members/friends for voting Trump?
(The Yale professor's message to America - about 50 seconds)

Nobody, including the author of the OP, who not only voted for Trump, but did so enthusiastically, has any moral grounding to point a finger at the behavior of another human being at least when it comes the way others handle their interpersonal relationships. When a rally at MSG becomes a hate-fest, you are "unaware" of what happened there, but then fully aware and post desperately about Biden's response, without having been aware of what he was responding to, it should remind people how pointless it is to reason with MAGA. That on top of the fact that you folks have not the slightest clue when talking about real issues, but boy, if it's a culture war thing, you're all over it.
If "liberals" want to cut people out of their life for supporting Trump good for them. If they want to retain relationships, good for them. Discussing topics like these gives the poster the false sense that they are knowledgeable about real issues that are important to discuss. That's all I have to say about it and I won't be returning to this thread from there.
Okay I came back to edit to add, so full disclosure that I lied: The peace offering I'm seeing from Trumpers on the ground right now including my right-wing friend, which is completely over the top and from another planet, only exist because Trump won, and by a decent margin. From the very start of the election Trump and his bros were screaming "mass fraud" and had margins been thin, would have landed us as close to a civil war as we've ever been. I suppose I need to throw that out there because the onslaught against democracy is the number one issue, it's more important that the MSG racism, which is the part of those kinds of platforms, but at the same time is a smoke screen.

I hope nobody seeks advice from you.

What you have said is crystal clear, so coming back to the thread wouldn't add clarity and/or nuance.

He is, isn't he? And yes, I've also found that reasoning with MAGA types is pointless.
...From the very start of the election Trump and his bros were screaming "mass fraud" and had margins been thin, would have landed us as close to a civil war as we've ever been...
Couldn't agree more.

There is no single reason to explain why Trump won and Kamala lost. There is no single reason to explain why family members become estranged. Especially not simply politics.

Not even the offending commenter in Ceeboo's link suggests disowning people.

See here you show your total ignorance of the stages of life. Let me explain. We met when I was 17 and he was 19. Fled Jersey together three years later with 2 cars, stereo, wedding presents, and the clothes on our backs. Why would I dump him now when we're right in the middle of a contest to see who can outlive the other and get all the wealth we've accumulated?

I'll miss him when he's gone!

I am not a big fan of Joy Reid’s show. It is red meat for the base, as the saying goes. I don’t take her seriously enough to worry about this. I think it is unfortunate that there are so many shows like this on all of the cable propaganda networks. Honestly, most cable news is low quality, but shows like this are almost as bad as Bartiromo or Pirro.
