Is there anyone here who is not alarmed by this? As Chris Hayes said, it certainly appears that Musk, who has never held any government office and is not eligible to be President, has now effectively made, or tried to make himself the 4th branch of the U.S., and the supreme overriding component of our country. He is either the wealthiest or the second wealthiest person on earth, and has now (it appears) bought the whole U.S. Government or, at least, Trump and his MAGA supporters. Elon Musk, being the wealthiest oligarch in America (at least) couldn't care less how many or how much his machinations are going to hurt the entire country--especially the poorest of us. I can't imagine that anything close to a majority of the American people find anything good about the power he has now arrogated to himself, yet it is hard to see what we can effectively do to change it at this time. I'm sure it won't be long before the vast majority of Americans, (even the most MAGA of them) will regret ever having trusted and voted for Donald J. Trump. Nor do I think Trump will enjoy being under the heavy thumb of Musk or having become his helplessly obedient puppet.“Musk is not just Trump's co-president—he is the head dude in charge,” says Chris Hayes on Musk calling for Republicans to shut down the government—before Trump even weighed in.

Unelected President Musk?
'Unelected President Musk': Elon posts 70 times trashing GOP bill, Trump caves

Nobody voted for President Musk, but he seems to be calling the shots. My guess is that Evangelicals and Mormons will get on board the Musk train because of his money, and Republicans will bank on Musk being raised under apartheid, which will make him amenable to their ideas. Trump can be a tagalong.

Despite the grim reality of America at the moment, there is no chance in hell Trump will tolerate Musk stealing the spotlight from him, and the inevitable fallout between them will be highly entertaining.

Yeah, Trump wants to trademark his policies and actions in govt. and the world. He won't tolerate Musk taking credit for anything he doesn't want and the divorce would be must see tv if it happens.
Myth is misused by the powerful to subjugate the masses all too often.

Perhaps certain folks should start to publicly and repeatedly refer to Elon as President Musk.

I'm as sure about that as you are. Not only that, but he also may not tolerate Musk trying to take credit for even for anything he does want. I would guess that nothing would cause Trump to change his mind faster about even some of his own pet policies than Musk claiming a major portion of credit for them. It would be much like the times when Republicans abandoned even some good initiatives and solutions, they had themselves been the first to suggest and propose, as soon as Obama or the Democrats also expressed approval of them, because they couldn't bear the prospect that they might benefit by sharing any of the credit for implementing them.

I think it will depend on what extent Musk is able to enrich Trump by dismantling government entities that are a thorn in both of their profiteering, and how well he is able to maximize the government funds smash-and-grab. With Trump, everything is transactional; and I think that can even potentially apply to his own ego.

This is a sure one to make Republicans happy:
Hopefully, Deseret Industry and Walmart can accommodate all the new elderly and mentally ill employees, especially the ones who are bedridden. We will need to wait to see how President Musk responds.Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) insisted that it was time to "start cutting" funds for food stamps because poor people should "go back to work."

Hopefully someone will be able to fill Mr. Tuberville into the fact that a lot of people living with food insecurity are not only working, but are working multiple jobs. In many instances, it's the families of members of the military.Moksha wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2024 10:17 pmThis is a sure one to make Republicans happy:

ETA: When I used to volunteer doing security for a "homeless" outreach program, and would spend time talking to people on the streets during distributions, I'd wager at least a third had jobs.
