Could Climate Change Be Reversing Itself?
During the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a surprising reduction in CO2 emissions, it became quickly apparent that this reduction was due to the reduction of industrial activity and travel during the pandemic. The rate of emissions quickly rebounded after the end of the pandemic. This proved that mankind's activities definitely do have a significant impact. There are several reasons for hope, however. For one, the ozone layer in our atmosphere that helps protect us all from the sun's damaging UV radiation is rebounding faster than expected from the lows caused by CFC emissions. This rapid recovery resulting from concerted, worldwide reduction in such emissions shows that concerted public awareness and actions can have a significant positive effect on the world's environmental dangers.
For another, the transition to renewable energy sources is happening worldwide much faster than originally expected. Unfortunately, our idiotic president's denial of the demonstrably adverse effects of our over reliance on fossil fuels and the increasingly evident evidence of both the environmental and economic advantages of that transition is likely to try his darndest to put the kibosh of such efforts as long as he remains in power.
