Oh dear. And there was me thinking that Iran was the theocracy, and the US was the country whose constitution said that congress could make no law establishing a religion.

US troops were told war on Iran was ‘all part of God’s divine plan’, watchdog alleges
Religious freedom group says 200 troops sent complaints of superiors using extremist Christian rhetoric to justify war

US military commanders have been invoking extremist Christian rhetoric about biblical “end times” to justify involvement in the Iran war to troops, according to complaints made to a watchdog group.

The Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF) says it has received more than 200 complaints from service members across all branches of the armed forces, including the marines, air force, and space force.

One complainant, identified as a noncommissioned officer (NCO) in a unit that could be deployed “at any moment to join” operations against Iran, told MRFF in a complaint viewed by the Guardian that their commander had “urged us to tell our troops that this was ‘all part of God’s divine plan’ and he specifically referenced numerous citations out of the Book of Revelation referring to Armageddon and the imminent return of Jesus Christ”.

“He said that ‘President Trump has been anointed by Jesus to light the signal fire in Iran to cause Armageddon and mark his return to Earth’”, the NCO added.

The NCO’s complaint was filed on behalf of 15 troops, including 11 Christians, one Muslim person, and one Jewish person. The complaint was first shared by MRFF with Jonathan Larsen, an independent journalist.

“Anytime Israel or the US is involved in the Middle East, we get this stuff about Christian nationalists who’ve taken over our government, and certainly our US military,” Mikey Weinstein, MRFF’s president, who is an air force veteran, told the Guardian.

“Military members are not really able to stand up for themselves, because your military superior is not your shift manager at Starbucks,” he added.

In a statement, Weinstein suggested the reports indicate an increase in Christian extremism in the military, noting that the complainants “report the unrestricted euphoria of their commanders” who perceive a “‘biblically-sanctioned’ war that is clearly the undeniable sign of the expeditious approach of the fundamentalist Christian ‘End Times’.”

He said that the complaints show a clear violation of the separation of church and state.

Pete Hegseth, the US defense secretary, is known for his embrace of Christian nationalism. He previously endorsed the doctrine of “sphere sovereignty”, a worldview derived from the extremist beliefs of Christian reconstructionism (CR). The philosophy calls for capital punishment for homosexuality and strictly patriarchal families and churches.

In August 2025, Hegseth reposted a CNN segment on X focusing on pastor Doug Wilson, a Christian nationalist who co-founded the Idaho-based Communion of Reformed Evangelical Churches (CREC). In the segment, Wilson says he does not believe women should hold leadership positions in the military or be able to fill high-profile combat roles.

“I would like to see this nation being a Christian nation, and I would like this world to be a Christian world,” Wilson said.

In response to a request for comment on the complaints, the Pentagon did not reply, instead sharing public clips of Hegseth discussing the operation in Iran.

That the republicans are dumb is the easy case. Of course the republican evangelicals are idiots on the israel issue, most issues, and blind to what their leaders say most of the time. However, the harder case is with the democrats because they point the finger at the dumb republican evangelicals and their leaders use that to falsely convince their adherents that the adherents are so smart because they aren't like them dumb evangelicals, thereby fencing the democrat adherents into false issues instead of what really matters. Flattery is intoxicating and leaving Mormonism and the shame it entails leaves the voter susceptible to false narratives. Welcome to the corporate democrats and their fake issues. How many times on this site were posters duped into pushing these false narratives? Russiagate? Where were they with Epstein? And frankly the pandemic wasn't what as advertised. I hope no one here was injured for being part of an experiment.

Sure Trump turned out to be a mess. Posters here saw the danger but were let down by their party, probably by design. We could have avoided this but we didn't. Kamala was a drunk and a crappy candidate, not for the people, for alcohol and whomever pays her bills. Biden was absent from the beginning. Clinton was probably the worst candidate. They, to a certain extent, created or allowed Trumpenstein to be where he is, s_____ israel's c______, murdering on that country's command, and robbing us blind.

But, let's be serious ..... the democrats, like Schumer and company, worship that certain middle eastern country, too.
Myth is misused by the powerful to subjugate the masses all too often.

Well we know that Iran had every intention of getting a nuclear weapon. As radical Islamic terrorists with a never ending hatred of America and Israel, we know that the only reason they haven't used the nuclear weapon on us is that they don't have one yet. Now it's going to take them a little longer to get a nuclear weapon. And if we have to bomb them again next week to stop them from carrying out their intention, then so be it.

And given the bravery of some 30,000 Iranians to stand up to their regime in the face of imminent execution and death, this weekend was the best time in the last 40 years to decapitate this radical Islamic terrorist regime and give the opposition party a chance.
Your haven't answered my question. You say you want to 'topple' the current Iranian regime. Fine. What exactly has to happen for you to say 'Yup. The Iranian regime has now been toppled. Mission accomplished!!'?

Please answer my question. It is a really important one.
When we get an Iranian government in power that doesn't teach children to chant death to America, death to Israel? We know we'll never get an Iran that looks like Tennessee. But if you have to hit them every week, better that than cleaning up a nuclear fallout on American soil.

What had to happen before you could say that Germany and Japan had been toppled in WW2?
And when the Confederates saw Jackson standing fearless like a stonewall, the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

It might be that leading by example is a more Christian approach than leading by excuse.

“We have radical left lunatics out there and we just have to beat the hell out of them.” - President Donald Trump

You’ve pledged your undying allegiance to a man who uses the highest and most powerful pulpit in the land to advocate for ‘beating the hell out of’ people with a different political opinion than himself. If that’s your starting point, what are you expecting from others?

Great news everyone! Iran just crowned a new Supreme Leader, and it’s staying in the family. Mojtaba Khamenei is officially stepping into his late father’s shoes. Experts are already calling Mojtaba the bigger hardliner of the two, and given that the U.S. just killed both his mother and father, I’m sure he has very warm feelings for America.

Meanwhile, it looks like the U.S. is officially running low on missiles. Top-tier planning from the Trump administration right there. This is turning into a total FUBAR!

Trump is responsible for Trump’s choices and behavior. Period.

Voters are responsible for their own choices and behavior. Period.

No one else forced either to do anything other.

For a fellow who is always warning everyone about the false dichotomy of the two party system blame game, you are remarkably consistent in playing that same game just as hard as anyone else I’ve seen.

To answer your question: Germany and Japan were occupied for a number of years by large numbers of Allied troops, and for some time both countries were governed by occupation authorities set up by the Allied powers. New democratic constitutions were imposed on both countries, and eventually the people of those countries were allowed to elect new governments. Finally the Allied forces occupying those countries were withdrawn, although some military bases were retained. Result? two prosperous countries aligned with democratic values and friendly towards the US and its allies.

Am I correct in thinking that you believe that dropping a lot of high explosives on Iran and going home will produce the same result? No boots on the ground required?

Dr. E,

Do you view both parties as equally corruptible and equally bad for Americans?

There is some reason to exercise skepticism about this report. Herman Mehta, author of The Friendly Atheist Substack, explains why. https://open.substack.com/pub/friendlya ... medium=ios

I have a ton of respect for Mikey Weinstein, but I think Mehta’s caution is warranted. Single anonymous source information should be approached with skepticism.
