Hound’s graphic has no vetted source listed, and coming from Fox News, is likely manipulated. Alternatively, analysis from Fact Check presents a balanced examination of claims about crime in Chicago, including the surprising fact that the Council on Criminal Justice reported - as an example - Chicago’s homicide rate through the first six months of 2025 (January to June) was 7 incidents per 100,000 residents, down from 12.8 per 100,000 during the same period in 2021, for a decrease of 45% — but given the timeframe and comparison to
the first 6 months of the year, the reduction has absolutely nothing to do with any Trump Administration-ordered intervention.

I haven't heard any reports of any civilians being roughed up by National Guard troops, …
Objectively, the Guard has largely been helpful in cities where they’ve been deployed, although they aren’t tasked with making arrests, and - as regards this thread - the National Guard is NOT deployed in CHICAGO, except to patrol several Federal properties, and
were only sent a couple of days ago. They are not assisting officers in the city proper.
In Chicago, Trump has tasked ICE with Operation Midway Blitz, and there are many reports of citizens being ‘roughed up’ by folks who are either ICE, or assisting ICE. It’s not always possible to determine just who is doing the roughing up, because there’s very little accountability by the Feds for actions committed by folks wearing masks and claiming to be Fed agents. This is the sort of thing that libertarians are typically wary of.
Here’s a story on ICE raiding an entire building and dumping everyone into the streets to be detained, with even children being handcuffed:

Here’s ICE pepper-spraying a family:

Here’s a recent report by ProPublica on ICE detaining citizens:

The consensus amongst many observers is that ICE (and the Trump Administration) have been actively employing rough tactics in an attempt to instigate pushback, so that they will have cause to then ramp up their efforts, and make Chicago an
example, driven by a partisan agenda against so-called ‘Democrat cities’.
Things are
not hunky dory in Chicago. Libertarians should be alarmed at what’s going on there. If you’d like to see some anecdotes of the action, check in with the Illinois subreddit. You may be surprised at what you’ll see.
