But this segment of the ‘young male’ population, being between 25 and 40 years old (not exactly’young’) and being groomed for leadership positions within one of the two viable political parties that Americans can choose from, should perhaps be held to better standards than actual young men hanging out at the local watering hole.

Instead, we have a VP calling them ‘kids’ in an effort to characterize them as just being ‘kids’, and making excuses for them.

None of these people are children, ranging in age from mid-twenties to mid-thirties, and one was the wife of another participant. Given that, and given the common sense of steering clear of questionable Nazi, racist, and rape references, it seems very reasonable to assume that this group - probably well educated and fairly well-versed in social norms - should have a better idea than the average Joe & Jane of what is appropriate in casual conversation.

Regarding the question: you could leak all of my ‘chats’ to everyone I’ve ever chatted with, and you won’t find an instance of me joking about Nazis or rape, or any disparaging racist comments. Why would those be necessary? What social convention encourages that?

Within the chat groups we’re talking about, someone may have thought that the number of comments associated with those topics was uncomfortably high and believed that bringing it to light might be a reasonable action. I can’t say that I disagree with that.

I’d rather have fewer folks in control of our government that are lacking the common sense to steer clear of Nazi, racist and rape references in casual conversation, rather than more.
