That's interesting that 7 counties which were carried by Trump in the last Presidential election voted yes on proposition 50. Presumably those 7 counties would have flipped to voting democrat in the 2026 midterm election even if Proposition 50 had not passed, wouldn't they? Doesn't this suggest that perhaps that proposition may not have been necessary after all?Brack wrote: ↑Sun Nov 16, 2025 10:07 pmSeven California counties that went for Trump, then one year later went for Proposition 50.
Data show that ballots cast to approve Prop. 50 — which passed with 64% of the vote — outnumbered "no" votes in Fresno, Imperial, Lake, Merced, Riverside, San Bernardino and San Joaquin counties, each of which was carried by Mr. Trump in the last presidential election. No California counties that voted for Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election voted no on Proposition 50, according to data from the California Secretary of State's Office (SOS) for both elections. Re: Proposition 50
I think the message was still important. Since the GOP's brand is corruption and hypocrisy, the democrats have to fight fire with fire.Gunnar wrote: ↑Mon Nov 17, 2025 1:29 pmThat's interesting that 7 counties which were carried by Trump in the last Presidential election voted yes on proposition 50. I love that the GOP got smacked hard this election. They deserved at least what they got. Really, they deserved an even harder thrashing, but I'll take this.

Re: Proposition 50
Even if Proposition 50 gets thrown out by the courts, I still think that Democrats will pick up at least a couple of House seats from California next year. And as for Texas, I don't think that Republicans are going to pick up 5 seats from that state next year.Gunnar wrote: ↑Mon Nov 17, 2025 1:29 pmThat's interesting that 7 counties which were carried by Trump in the last Presidential election voted yes on proposition 50. Re: Proposition 50
I suspect and hope you're right about that. It appears that Trump and his MAGA sycophants have managed to at least shoot themselves in the foot, if not an even more embarrassing place. It would be nice if even some of the Senate seats that are up for reelection next year are also flipped to democrat to give them a majority in the Senate. It would be even nicer if both Trump and JD Vance get impeached and convicted (as they both deserve) after the House is flipped to a Democrat majority by the next election, giving us a Democrat Speaker who would then become our next President. Is that too unreasonable to hope for? I am convinced that any of the most likely Democrat candidates for Speaker, should that happen, would make a better and more qualified President than Donald J. Trump! Our NATO allies would sigh a great collective sigh of relief, should that happen.Brack wrote: ↑Mon Nov 17, 2025 3:31 pmEven if Proposition 50 gets thrown out by the courts, I still think that Democrats will pick up at least a couple of House seats from California next year.
