Pope Leo calls for kindness to strangers and the poor in Christmas message
Refusing to help those in need is tantamount to rejecting God himself, says pontiff during Christmas Eve mass

Pope Leo has told Christians that the Christmas story should remind them of their duty to help the poor and strangers.
In his Christmas Eve sermon, the pope said the story of Jesus being born in a stable because there was no room at an inn showed followers that refusing to help those in need was tantamount to rejecting God himself.
Leo, who has made care for immigrants and the poor key themes of his early papacy, said Jesus’ birth showed God’s presence in every person as he led the world’s 1.4 billion Catholics into Christmas at a mass in St Peter’s Basilica.
“On earth, there is no room for God if there is no room for the human person. To refuse one is to refuse the other,” said the pope during the solemn service, attended by about 6,000 people inside the basilica.
Leo, the first US-born pope, is celebrating his first Christmas after being elected in May by the world’s cardinals to succeed the late Pope Francis. The pope, who has criticised Donald Trump’s divisive immigration crackdown, quoted a line from Pope Benedict XVI lamenting that the world does not care for children, the poor or foreigners.
“While a distorted economy leads us to treat human beings as mere merchandise, God becomes like us, revealing the infinite dignity of every person,” said Leo. “Where there is room for the human person, there is room for God. Even a stable can become more sacred than a temple.“

Something tells me that the Catholics of Kaysville were underrepresented in the warming center protest and that Mormons and conservative Evangelicals were the plaintiffs.

I went to an Assembly of God meeting on Christmas Eve. They love Jesus, no doubt. The Pastor didn’t mention anything about caring for the indigent, though he did mention something about Mary’s virginity.
The church was very cool. A spectacular audio and visual Christian rock show. Very, very cool. I didn’t see any homeless people there, thank God or Emmanuel or the Ghost. Not sure who’s who any more, but thank Them there were no BUMS damned UP MY ROCK SHOW.
Merry CHRISTmass and Happy Anno DOMINI. I’ll pray for all of you.

Great critique of those crazies on the right. ThEy aRe sO nUtS! Q abides in their souls forever and russiagate was real, just repeat that over and over again until Mr. Asch rolls over in his grave. As long as there are confederates, the poor rightwingers will succumb to group pressure or be ridiculed into submission (and the donor billionaires will be happy at your efforts!) The seesaw illusion continues. Now let's see some criticism of your own team ... if it's possible ... they didn't have a candidate that could beat Trump, maybe it's their fault? Anyway, let's see the critique of the left ... on three ... 1, 2, 3, GO!!!!
Easy to criticize the other, but not so easy to criticize the home team. Perhaps there is a game being played with the donor billionaires where they create the illusion of controversy to get us to fight amongst ourselves so we don't focus on their crimes a la Epstein and other frauds they commit?
Although the right is so terrible now that they are governing. Let's go with that. Points scored supposedly and yet wealth still goes upward and everyone else continues down the road to impoverishment.
