Substack subscription

I want to read a substack that's written by a psychologist/neuroscientist. Yes, it's about he-who-shall-not-be-named. The thing is asking for my email to subscribe. Is that the only way I can read any of it? Under the thing/form is says "I'll think about it". Can I go with that and read it? Guidance please? If I subscribe will they send me a million notifications I don't want?

Yes I'm being lazy and asking you guys. Do you call it a substack or a blog? I'm new to this.

This is how I discovered him. He's legit. I'm still up to my eyeballs in the video. It runs almost an hour. His substack is called The Gaslight Report. I don't even know who the youtuber is.

You need to supply an e-mail to get an account with substack. Many authors produce newsletters, which are sent by e-mail.

Wonder what's that thing that says "I'll think about it" with the arrow on the right?

Jersey Girl, if you’re referring to Scott Carney, you can read some of his material via the web interface to his Substack:

https://sgcarney.substack.com/

This option does not require that you enter any personal information, nor does it require the Substack app for access.

If you decide to supply your email address, you’ll likely receive emails with portions (and sometimes the entirety) of selected new posts or updates about what he has added. You can receive this without needing to commit to any paid subscription option, but you’ll not have access to his full collection of work.

Oh Happy Day! There's a way to peek in, huh? I'm after the psych he interviewed in the link I posted above. I didn't get enough of him in the interview alone. His substack is called The Gaslight Report. How do I do that with his substack do you know?

I don't know what I'm doing. I just know I want to hear more from him. He does have at least one other YouTube interview going that passed through my feed.

If anyone else is interested here's the other interview. Yes, I know I'm hopeless. ;)

What’s Wrong With Trump? A Neuroscientist Explains His Brain

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gzvPC6tKS5Q
Is Donald Trump addicted to attention, incapable of empathy, and neurologically unlike a normal human being? In this episode of Cults, Culture, and Coercion, Dr. Steven Hassan interviews neuroscientist and psychologist Dr. Frank R. George on Trump’s pathological narcissism, his addictive dopamine-driven personality, MAGA cult dynamics, and the dangers of malignant narcissism in leaders.

Dr. Frank R. George is an internationally recognized expert in psychology, neuroscience, narcissism, and addiction, with a PhD from the University of Colorado and former senior leadership at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Drawing on decades of research, Dr. George explains why Trump’s brain does not function like a neurotypical brain, how narcissistic supply operates like a drug, and why loss of attention triggers rage, collapse, and increasingly extreme behavior.

In this conversation, Dr. Hassan and Dr. George examine:
  • Why pathological narcissism closely mirrors substance addiction in the brain
  • How Trump’s need for rallies, media attention, and adoration reflects dopamine-driven dependency
  • The concept of malignant narcissism, originally used to analyze Adolf Hitler
  • Why narcissism is an outward-facing disorder that harms societies, not just individuals
  • How propaganda, and fear are used by narcissists to maintain power and compliance
  • The contagious nature of narcissism within cults, cabinets, and authoritarian movements
  • The role of social media addiction, intermittent reinforcement, and dopamine hits
  • Why narcissistic leaders escalate toward danger when their “mask” begins to crack
  • How possible dementia may intensify existing narcissistic pathology
Dr. Hassan connects these insights to his own experience in a destructive cult, The Moonies, explaining how followers can gradually adopt the leader’s mindset, values, and behavior. Together, they explore how power abuse dynamics, brainwashing, and coercive control now operate at scale through media ecosystems and online platforms.

The episode also addresses how mental health experts sounding the alarm on Trump have been shamed and silenced, misuse of the Goldwater Rule, and why the public has been denied critical psychological insight into Trump and other authoritarian figures.

This conversation is essential viewing for anyone trying to understand Trump’s psychology, political cults, media manipulation, and the neuroscience behind narcissism and how these factors threaten our democracy.
Don't come for me. I can't help myself. Some of you guys geek out on politics. I geek out on psychology, k?

Ooo La La! It's a gold mine. He even covers narcissistic collapse (because that's where he's headed I am sure) and that's only the first page of articles. I've never even heard John Gartner discuss it and he's all over the place online. I think I've got a bit of light reading to do! ;) There's even a recording!

I’ve been reading his stuff — I recognize some of the titles. The narcissistic collapse seems to fit what we are seeing.

Yes it sure does fit and I think he's the only one I've seen who addresses his sadism. On one hand it's fascinating to behold but on the other hand...he's got the nuclear codes.

I've read several of his entries (?) already and listened to the podcast option when I can. I think without being subbed I don't get the full podcast. I'll probably subscribe before long here.

Gartner has not covered narcisstic collapse in any presention/interview I've seen him do online and I try to catch whatever he's got new when I can. Did you know that Gartner himself is bipolar? He shared that when his own channel Shrinking Trump was still active.

Have not seen anything from Dr. Razz in a week.

I unsubbed from Todd Grande a long time ago when he started injecting humor into serious topics. I found it entirely off putting so I bugged out.

There's a PT who works with the aged I've seen who gives Trump 4 months to live. He's making the rounds with that. He's not worth my time.

So now what I've got is Gartner, Dr. Razz, and now The Gaslight Report.
