Why Are Americans So Bloody Stupid?

This is a pretty good analysis of why America produces such dumb voters, among other things.

One of the first things I noticed when moving to the US is how unquestioning citizens are about their own country, and always found it disconcerting. There have been people on this site who have talked about America being the best country in the world without any supporting evidence for that claim (and I'm highly suspicious they've never been out of the country to do any kind of actual comparison). They just blindly believe it like it's widely assumed, like their god and the value of their political affiliation.

I am so grateful I was not educated in the US. I feel dumb enough just thinking America was as great as advertised when I was young, enough to actually move here. If I could take it back, I might be tempted. I know my wife wouldn't blink at that for a second. She hates that we moved here and reminds me often.

I am so grateful I was not educated in the US. I feel dumb enough just thinking America was as great as advertised when I was young, enough to actually move here. If I could take it back, I might be tempted. I know my wife wouldn't blink at that for a second. She hates that we moved here and reminds me often.

I disagree that it goes deeper. I think if you drill down on any given issue that infects this society, at the root you'll find money.

And it's not yours.

So then what is your explanation for the difference between the US and other western democracies in terms of quality education? Money is the root of evil everywhere, so why is the US so different, so comparatively dumber?

I'm guessing videos like that could be made in any country if you interview enough kids and include the dumbest answers. I imagine AI is dumbing down kids in real time all over the world.

I still think the stupidification (coined new word) of US citizens is by design.

I have no idea how other countries fund education. In the US it's all BS and numbers. Overall, our students aren't learning the way we'd like because they aren't being taught in ways that encourage innovation or critical thinking to name just two.

Why? Because of how this country views accountability and why. Underneath all the test score stats and overlooking critical and basic skills development, are numbers. Numbers with regard to performance which is measured by standardized testing. Teachers are often compromised when they have to "teach to the test" that is to say, when teaching becomes preparationg for testing instead of learning. Teachers are forced into such situations because their own retention is on the line. So are those in administration.

Retention means money
State funding and grants means money
crappy teaching means crappy student outcomes

Let me add a personal experience having to do with healthcare. I had to get cardioverted at the ER the other day in the wee hours. Something happened that I've never seen or been aware of prior. The nurse was hustling about like a bee on a hive trying to get the EKG machine to work. She had to quickly trade it out for another unit. When she said "We're losing time on the EKG" I didn't know what she was talking about. I mean she was moving like a maniac and obviously stressed out.

After I asked questions (I always do) I learned that the staff are being time studied via their digital reports. Timed for efficiency. You can take that new fact that I learned and apply it in the exact same way I did the list for money related education issues. Student or patient, it's all the same problem.

This country is currently built on extraneous BS that doesn't matter and it's related to money.

I didn't watch the above video. Social media plays a major part in destroying thinking in our society. Nearly nothing is real and much of it's content is transmitted to make....MONEY...and we stupid lemmings go chasing the next shiny object to buy, buy, buy in search of the next dopamine hit and it makes us feel part of an imaginary society.

Isolation, polarization, and a search for a sense of belonging, trading material goods for personal interaction produce habits that aren't our friends.

Oh heck I think you could modify that statement and describe the draw of MAGA.

I got mildly educated before the colleges went to crap. So I was fortunate that way.....
