I would have liked to write about the passing of Dolly Parton but I couldn't. I've been crying about it for 3 days and I still won't be able to put words together that even come close to doing her justice. Normally, I'd add the passing of a music artist to my rabbit hole thread. I couldn't even do that.

Was I a huge fan of her music? No. I liked it but no, I wasn't. Was I a huge fan of her films? No, I wasn't. I've seen them, they're fine but no, I wasn't. I've been thinking about why the news of her passing hit me so hard and I figured it out the why.

It's because I was a fan of her heart.

She was kind beyond measure, she made millions and gave it away. I might list her known good deeds some time, not now. When she saw suffering, she did what she could to alleviate it. She understood the worth of a child and she loved God. When I think of her, I don't think so much about her music, I think of this.

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. ~ Matthew 5: 16 KJV

It's really hard to know that yet another light has left this world just when we need it so much. Someone who inspired joy and kindness, and often a good laugh. It was to be expected. She was 80 years old and was caregiver to her husband prior to his death. I read that that extremely talented lady who stood 5 foot, who was always bedazzled in public, is going to be buried in a cotton dress.

With high heels.

Well really what I wanted to do with this post of mine is hit you guys up for money. Here's a link to her Imagination Library if you'd care to let your own light shine and make a donation.

If you reply here, please keep it respectful. Don't post any joke memes and please don't mention the p-word, politics...at all. If you don't feel like commenting maybe just drop some cash into the donation box at the link.

Thanks for listening,

Gov. Lee Announces Partnership to Name Nashville International Airport in Honor of Dolly Parton

A lasting tribute is being envisioned to honor her remarkable life, enduring legacy, and immeasurable impact on Tennessee and beyond

Friday, August 28, 2026 | 12:56pm

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Today, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee and Nashville International Airport®, also known as BNA®, announced their intent to name BNA in honor of Dolly Parton, creating a lasting tribute to her indelible legacy and the generations of people she inspired across Tennessee and around the world.

Gov. Lee spoke with Dolly’s team about the proposal this week. Her team expressed their appreciation for the extraordinary outpouring of support to honor Dolly and said they are touched by the idea and open to continuing the conversation. In keeping with the way Dolly lived her life, her team believes she still has a special way of bringing people together for good, and they hope this tribute can be another example of that enduring legacy.

“Dolly Parton’s extraordinary life is forever woven into the fabric of our state,” said Gov. Lee. “From her rural mountain home in East Tennessee to global stages, Dolly carried the Volunteer Spirit with her. At a place where Tennessee welcomes the world, it is fitting that Nashville International Airport would bear the name of our state’s favorite daughter and greet travelers with the enduring legacy of Dolly’s music, generosity, faith, and kindness.”

Born in Sevier County, Dolly Parton became a global icon whose music, creativity, and unmistakable voice reflected the heart and spirit of Tennessee. Widely regarded as one of the most influential and beloved artists in American music history, Dolly’s impact extends far beyond the stage through her lifelong commitment to service and philanthropy. Through the Dollywood Foundation and Imagination Library, she has provided hundreds of millions of free books to children worldwide, promoting literacy and empowering children to reach their full potential.

“BNA® is the front door to Music City, and with that comes a responsibility to reflect the very best of who we are as a community,” said Doug Kreulen, president and CEO, Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority. “Dolly’s remarkable legacy reminds us that what makes Nashville special is our ability to welcome people from every walk of life. She understood that dignity, kindness and opportunity should never be defined by where you come from or your socioeconomic status. At BNA, we share that commitment. Whether you are boarding a private aircraft or taking your first flight, you deserve to be welcomed, respected and served with the same level of care. That spirit is what defines BNA and it is a fitting reflection of the values Dolly shared with Tennessee and the world.”

The Metro Nashville Airport Authority’s (MNAA) current Naming Policy and Gov. Lee’s proposal to rename the airport will be addressed at MNAA’s meeting on Thursday, September 17. More details will be announced in the coming weeks.

The next Atlantic storm will be named Dolly, but it's not connected to Parton's death

The next tropical storm that develops in the Atlantic this hurricane season will be named Dolly, but the timing is pure coincidence and has no connection to Dolly Parton’s death Tuesday.

Storm systems are named by procedures set by the World Meteorological Organization, and the lists of names are reused every six years. For the Atlantic region, the lists are alphabetical and alternate male and female names.
