I Beg Your Pardon in the Rose Garden.

DOJ is investigating an attempted bribe by from an unnamed person, in all probability through their lawyer, for a pardon in exchange for a substantial political contribution to the White House or related Politcal Committee.
The DC District Court filing is heavily redacted. All we have at this point is the indication that a bribe or some kind of quid pro quo offer was floated. Who, if anyone, in the White House received the offer is unknown, as to what exactly was done when the offer was made. The filing mentioned attorney-client privilege, so there is a possibility a lawyer was involved in floating the deal. Any conversation in furtherance of a crime is not protected under attorney client privilege.
Not a lot known at this point. Rudy Giuliani has been mentioned as a pardon candidate, but again, no one is named in the document. So bombshell or nothingburger? Stay tuned...
Apologies to
Lynn Anderson.

I imagine Trump will now issue a pardon to pretty much everyone working for him, including his family.

I wonder how that works if you haven’t been charged?

Now, THEREFORE, I, GERALD R. FORD, President of the United States, pursuant to the pardon power conferred upon me by Article II, Section 2, of the Constitution, have granted and by these presents do grant a full, free, and absolute pardon unto Richard Nixon for all offenses against the United States which he, Richard Nixon, has committed or may have committed or taken part in during the period from January 20, 1969 through August 9,1974.

Huh. So, a President and his associates can just do whatever and get qualified immunity. Literally nothing stopping them from doing whatever they want? I’ll have to read up on this because... why not.

I think Republican lawyers will coin the term "prophylactic pardon". They will probably quote the James Bond license to kill as a supporting precedent.
After the Trump Family and Giuliani, Trump's Ukrainian team members Lev and Igor will probably be pardoned next. It would be a hoot if, in a fit of anger, Trump left Bill Barr unpardoned.
