The Beginning of the End of Mormonism?

Who would have thought that the greatest threat to the Church
wouldn't be factual information proving Mormonism's various claims false, but rather.... drum roll.....
Politics!!
This from a friend on Facebook:
Well, this is unprecedented.
The church congratulated Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, then had to turn off comments on its website because the comments *from its own members* were so toxic. These comments included denunciations of church leaders, accusations of corruption in the leading quorums, photos of torn-up temple recommends, and so on. Combine this with the unhinged and crazy response last month to elder Oaks when he said black lives matter, and I really have to wonder what the future holds.
It's not my decision, of course, but they did teach us in junior Primary that the first step in repentance is recognizing that we have a problem. Let's start there.

Where they intersects with politics, faith beliefs - and the structure that represent them - are expendable if they conflict with what some folks prefer to believe about anything else.
Just as some LDS would claim that exmos are so because they wanted to sin and drink coffee, there apparently exist some LDS folks willing to discard their religious allegiance because they want to believe in voter fraud.

I read the same statement on LDS Living. It was a politically correct statement as many are. It doesn't change my view of the truth nor my relationship with Christ one bit. I'm as committed to the Brethren as I have ever been in my life.
There were LDS members saying you couldn't vote for Trump and be temple worthy. I don't even think being denied a temple recommend for voting for Trump would bother me at this point. The Lord always makes things right in the end. And the truth is that the vast majority of the members see things the way I do and I draw a lot of strength from my fellowship with them. And yes I do go to the temple Icarus. What I wouldn't give to see the look on your face seeing me there.

Donald Trump represents a sociological problem, not a threat to doctrine. I keep thinking that the
Axial Age Religions are nearing the end of their ability to be models of comfort, solace and belief, that there will be a gradual fading of belief in traditional religions in the next century. Exactly what form it will take? My guess would be religious precepts will come not from prophets, prophesies and dogma, but an approach where individuals find spirtual fulfillment through contemplation, meditation and conscious behavior. The biggest threat to Mormonism will come, not from a theological challenge to doctrine, but rather the importance that people place upon all religious doctrines and dogmas.
Of course I could be entirely wrong. I ain't no prophet

. There is also a disturbing increase in a 'post-truth' society that could lend itself to some radicaly dogmatic belief systems.

Yes, the vast majority of Jews agreed with the Pharisees and decided to Crucify Jesus. After all group thinking makes truth, right?
I think what this shows is the Brethren are truly losing control, not only of the narrative now, but its own membership.

Group thinking can be uplifting. I grew up having to go it alone as the only Mormon kid. Then I got the BYU syndrome where I just didn't feel needed. I've been in wards with all takers and went inactive. I've found a ward of just incredible people, much smarter, more valiant, more accomplished, and more faithful than me. I can't even describe it. I've went from being a tortured soul to being lifted up on the shoulders of giants to a spiritual epiphany. There will be no end to Mormonism, not as long as the people in my ward are living.
I know you like to go it alone Philo Sofee and I was once like that. Most of the time, that's the best way. It always was for me to the point I thought it a principle of natural law. But I've been proven wrong. You can get so much further when surrounded by great people.

As I understand it, the Church's growth rate has been slowing for years due to a combination of declining conversions and hemorrhaging of already existing members for years. It would be sad if the exodus from the Church is accelerated because the Church leadership actually did something right and admirable.

I find it extremely sad that you evidently define "great people" as any who happen to share your extreme bigotry and hatred towards all who don't happen to agree with your prejudices and xenophobia.

Many Mormons and Evangelicals have accepted Trump as their personal Messiah. They like this arrangement because they can combine their Messiah, Caesar, and Mammon all into a single unit.
